Where does this spring connect? '78SC

Last fall after I pulled the engine for some cleaning and a "while I'm in there" list that got bigger than I liked, I ended up with an extra spring. It bothered me for a couple days but everything ran well and I soon got over it.

Well, while browsing our host's catalog I found this diagram showing the spring! I now know where it goes... sorta. Can anyone tell me exactly where to connect it? And what its purpose is?

That spring attaches to the middle intake runner on the underside, and then to the throttle linkage arm on the throttle plate.

Nope. I know which one you are talking about and I have that one in place.

The spring in the first post is a called a "support spring" and has something to do with the heater system. It is a different size and has a different part number than the one you referenced.

I must not have one, of course I'm backdating now anyway, but I don't remember ever seeing that spring.

That spring does not show on the PET diagram for a '78 SC. Were did you get that particular diagram? That square-ish clamp that holds the splitter duct to the fan is also not on that PET diagram.

I found it here in our host's catalog.

For what it is worth, I have a RoW car.

I have an '80 SC Euro also -- never seen that spring or the square-ish collar in our 25 years together.

Any chance you could be mistaking it for the spring that's supposed to go between the clutch's small lever arm and the transmission case, on the bottom of the car? Looks awfully similar, and for the first 6 months I owned my car I unwittingly drove around without it.

Porsche Crest

Hi Glenn, I have a similar spring on my SC 3.0 attached to the throttle linkage (as a return help I imagine) behind the heater blower above the CIS.

Mike.
