time/cost for 915 remove, rebuild, replace...
I'm getting an estimate from a very seasoned 911 shop of:
10 hrs remove and replace engine/transmission 10 hrs to rebuild the transmission + parts Seems like the 10 hrs remove and replace is quite high, perhaps the 10 hrs rebuild is a little low... If you have any firsthand experience with paying for a rebuild on a 915 transmission or with doing it yourself I'd appreciate your thoughts on the time estimates. Thanks, Jeff

I spent over 10 hours just cleaning my '82 915. For somebody who knows what they are doing, the 10 hours might be OK for a rebuild time.
It shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 hours, IMO, to r/r the engine and tranny. I'm a DIYer, so I don't know what normal shop rates are but like I said I think it would take a while to really clean the outside of the case if is anything like mine was. Good luck.

Thanks Dave. I was also thinking 3-4 hrs to r&r.

All of a sudden my bum is sore... Do you happen to have any rebuildable 915 cores?

Just a thought if you want to save more than a few bucks. have a drop party with any pelicans in the area. and send the trans to JW or build it yourself.
you will feel better and know that it was done right. |

Thanks to everyone for the advice!
Still need to think about this and check into shipping costs... Roninlb - if it is not too much trouble to take a pic of your shipping platform that would be great! Cheers, Jeff

3.5HR is real fast and is a very good price. Heck.. if he was in Los Angeles... I'd be having him do it for me.! :-) At that price... it might be worth it to ship the car. TonyG
