Chris, from what I gather reading thru this whole thread is that the power window behavior in the G50 cars ('87 onward) is different than the 915 cars (up thru '86). In the earlier cars, the windows do not work with the door open and key off. It appears the later ones do work in that scenario.

One other difference between G50 and 915 cars is the cigar lighter - in the G50 cars the lighter is always hot. In the 915 cars, it is hot only with ignition on.

When the key is on, current flows through D1, and the coil of relay K1, closing the relay contacts. This sends power to the window switches. Current also flows through R1, and D3, again to the coil, which holds the relay closed when the key is turned off. This continues until either door is opened. The door switches ground the circuit, dropping all the voltage across R1, relaxing the relay. Since my door switches don't work, the relay stays on all the time, drawing current from the battery, through R1, and the coil of K1, until eventually the battery dies. I unsoldered D3 as a temporary fix.
I think you might have over-looked an important part of the circuit

There are 2 filament courtesy/dome bulbs, high side to 12V, connected to the circuit, D3 anode, that wlll also supply current flow to keep the relay engaged.

Which begs the question...

Isn't the dome light circuit still "live" with the key off, post door open/close?

The link in post #13 show what I reverse engineered from my 88 cab relay.

Hello all, after reading through this i'm still a bit confused. My car is an 88 Carrera Sunroof coupe and for the longest time I had a battery drain which I band aided with the use of a battery tender. Anyways, i have now pulled and cleaned the door jamb switches and my ignition buzzer and interior lights are now functioning for the first time since I bought the car.

Thats great, however my power widows are still energized all the time which I'm sure will still cause a drain on my battery. Is the next most likely culprit the power window relay? In the Relay Diagram I see the power window relay is labelled as #1 on the far left, but don't see any others labelled as the "convenience relay". I'm wondering if the fact that my door switched were not grounding for so long that it may have eventually just welded the relay?

Whats my next move? Replace the relay? Would disconnecting the battery open the relay, or should that have happened once the door switches finally grounded?
