If you could not drive it would you sell it?
I am interested to know, if for some reason, be it medical or otherwise, you could not drive your Porsche and you were not sure if you would ever drive it again would you:
1. Sell it as there is no point if you cant drive it 2. Keep it hoping things may change 3. Wow, not sure Think seriously before you answer, i am really interested in thoughts or comments ![]()

Sell...the number one reason to own a Porsche is to drive it...!

I would have to know more about the situation. If there were a true chance of getting to drive it in near future I would keep it. If it were just a chance of some miracle then there is no point. If that is the case for me it would just be a source of irritation to have it around.

I think I'd keep it, strap myself into the passenger seat, and let another driver have a go at it. "Do not go gentle into that good night" (Dylan Thomas)

I have honestly ever thought about it. When I read the title, I assumed it was going to be about museum cars or driver cars. That's obviously not the case.
I suppose that if I could not PHYSICALLY drive my Porsche, a relative chance to never drive it again, and no one in my household could drive it (especially with me IN IT), I'd sell it. It would be very tough, but I would eventually. Later, Mike

Well there is no sence in leving it in the garage...............all alone. I would give the car to my father. If he wern't here, It would go to my son, provided the wife wouldn't want it. I would make sure it stayed with someone in the family, who would enjoy the car, and I could see it.
Oddly enough, my morbid daughter asked me who I was leaving my cars to when I croak. ( I guess 42 is close to death). She layed claim to my BMW and doesn't want the 911. It would take a while before I could let her go. (the car not the daughter)

Keep it and maintain it till times change. If you love it that much, don't let it go easy. It depends where your heart is I guess. I love driving my car but I always have plans to change it as in a backdate/update. It's part of the love for this car I think. Don't haste into things you might regret.
For me, part of the passion is to be able to do things myself and these cars suit that passion well. I wouldn't want to drive a new car. My 911 is my daily driver.

A very hard one!
If the money was not important I would say NO! In the years I've had mine there have been too many important moments together to say goodbye. My problem is also compounded because mine is a bit of a much modified heap. I don't think anyone would love and care for her like I do. I'd just have to arrange to be taken for drives ![]()

This would only give me more reason to do the thing I want to do the most. Put my car in the living room and be able to enjoy the true meaning of art.

If you can't drive it, I would sell it unless you want to pass it on to a family member. That being said, I have a Corvette that i have not driven since 1995... I wish I sold it then.

Thanks for all the great interesting responses thus far.
RickV thanks for concern, all is well thanks, life is what you make of it. I posted this topic to see what other Porsche owners would do just out of interest, i know what i would do as i have had the choice and decided to keep my car, hell i even bought a second one i cant drive. In November 2004 I was involved in a freak car accident while traveling at under 40 miles an hour my BMW M3 hit a wet patch in the road on a corner that resulted in a big spin followed by a not so clever landing. At the time of the spin, as i had been back wards so many times on a racetrack, i was not concerned, unfortunately the car left the road and went back wards into a field. As the rear wheels hit the soft earth they got stuck, unfortunately the car then when over back wards and then rolled. This resulted in a broken neck, in two places, I did a really good job, with doctors stating i would be paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of my life. As my wife will confirm I am the most stubborn bastard she has ever met and when i set my mind to do something nothing will stop me i just wont allow it to. At the time myself and my mechanic had been building a Jagermeifler RSR replica for about 10 months, and as the bodywork had just been finished i had never had the pleasure of driving the car. Everyone expected me to sell it and that would be that, but my wife and close friends were not surprised when i stated no chance on day i will drive it and this i firmly believe. As mentioned i am incredibly stubborn and refuse to let things get the better of me or give up, my RSR is about 3-4 months away from being finished and i will be in that passenger seat around the first racetrack i can find going as fast as i can, knowing that one day i will drive it for the first time. After just over two and a half years my stubbornness has proved all medical experts wrong and i have movement back in one of my legs nearly 100% and both my arms are also nearly 100% functional. I managed to drive an automatic car to get around by using my left foot to accelerate and brake until my right foot fully recovers, I don't believe in changing to hand controls or changing my RSR to an automatic as that is not the way it was meant to be. Since the accident i have been sideways in many 911's at over 250 kph as a passenger and love to be in the cars even if i cannot YET drive them. I recently bought a 944 turbo cup car to add to my collection and had a fantastic ride in it as a passenger on its first night home. I consider myself to be very lucky as there are always a lot of people who are so much worse off than you, hell i own 2 Porsche's how bad can life be. Always remember, nothing is impossible, never give up!! When life throws you a curve ball it is how you catch it that counts.

Johnny B, keep on fighting and you'll be back in that driver's seat. Your determination and will is amazing. Please keep us updated on your progress (both you and the RSR). All my best and don't sell the car.

Just to set the record straight, although i cannot drive the cars they wont just sit and rot, no chance of that.
There is always someone willing to go for a drive in a great car and as long as i can find someone to throw them around the racetrack i will be in the passenger seat living life at full throttle the way it was meant to be. A lot have people have said they would never get back into a car after such a bad accident, I was doing less that 40 mph at the time, these things happen, proving its not speed that kills but the sudden stop. Hey dont worry about the fall, perfect the landing and you will be fine ask any cat.
