Replace Decel valve on 1982 SC

Does anyone know approximately how much time is involved in replacing a Decel valve on a 1982 SC? Is the engine pulled out of the car for this procedure? I'm trying to estimate what the repair bill will be. Thanks.

Mine's disasbled , took about 10 seconds (I didn't personally do it so I can't tell you how) - can't stand the slow drop in revs between shifts. Much more fun to shift without it interfering (better enable to get it smogged though, since it's there for emmissions control on decelaration).

I think there's a "plug it with a golf tee" fix - try the search button.

Craig:
Why does your Decel Valve need replacing?
What are the symptoms?
It's a little hard to reach behind the FD but should be doable.
Some may do a partial drop?

Revs don't drop. Hunting idle.

First thing I would check is the Auxillary Air Regulator (AAR)
That's the one with the electr. wiring to it.
Make sure it gets 12V when running.
It's easy: When cold, the "half-moon" is open, after running for about 2 minutes, the heater element inside closes the opening.

If the AAR works, I would move on to the AAV and Decel Valve.
As for hunting: That's a mixture issue.
Of course, unless the AAR, AAV and Decel Valve work properly, you cannot really get it down to 900 RPM to set the mixture or timing.

I hope the shop will know for sure where the failure is and not just replace parts until the problem goes away.

I have a decel valve (and the rest of a CIS system) I recently removed from a 82 SC for an EFI upgrade. Send me a PM if you're interested in anything.
