Moving speed trap

I posted this on another forum but since I know some of you guys like to "exercise" your cars from time to time, I thought you should know about this trick, if you don't already. It's a sore subject with me so I'll just let you take a look.

if an officer pulls you over in a patrol car, is that also a moving speed trap? whats the difference if the officer is in a patrol car(marked or not) an airplane or a semi...if you drive like an idiot, you should be cited.

DZLS, I don't disagree with your desire to remove bad drivers from the road. It only serves you, me, and both our families to get them off. My only issue is with how programs are represented by law enforcement as being solely to save lives; never a mention of revenue generation which I feel is the real reason . I question the need to use tax money for a $250k rig pulling a 60 foot trailer when an unmarked car at $30k could see the same infractions. Just follow a few rigs already on the road. And it seems when anyone questions a bureaucrat's decision, he is labeled as being anti-safety.

I only posted this so the driving enthusiasts on this board can be made aware of another trap out there; not an attempt to foster dangerous driving or question the importance of law enforcement.

cheers

Here in Washington state, the troopers are riding along in operating trucks, and when they see violations, make a radio call to another officer in a marked car. They aren't spending money on big rigs, they're just getting permission to ride along in privately owned trucks.

why, back in granddaddys day the poor police had to make do with hiding behind billboards on the side of the road. now they get to ride in air conditioned splendor in a mobile duck blind . i hear some trucks are even equipped with cappuccino machines.
great strides forward in the twenty first century.

if you get a ticket from one of these big rigs, ask them for a latte.

You guys are hilarious. I'll remember to see if they have a latte if I ever get pulled over. I've been fortunate, no tickets in over 5 years. And the last ticket I got, I actually thanked the officer for his professionalism. I was speeding plain and simple. We talked cars for a few minutes and he said he appreciated my comment. Still got the ticket, but I deserved it.

And Dantilla, that is the point I was making; there are ways to do the same thing without wild unnecessary spending of our tax dollars. But just don't question their bright ideas; then they say you don't want to save lives.

Call it revenue enhancement, saving lives or anything else. The way I was brought up is if you want to dance you have to pay the piper.

If you cut off of a semi you deserve the Darwin award you just earned. We don't need the Police to help idiots live by giving them a ticket.

So who is going to give the semi driver a ticket that is 3 feet off my bumper going down a hill while exceeding the speed limit?

maybe i'm biased because i drive a truck. but so many drivers take ridiculous chances to save a sec. or two and dont think of the consequences. and if there is an accident, the media makes it seem like its always the big rigs fault. dont get me wrong...there are bad truck drivers also. drivers in general are getting worse. no courtesy and a lot of aggression. but are usually on good behavior when a patrol car is around. you can usually spot them from a good distance.

I'm with ABR on this one. What a waste of money! I refuse to believe that cars are a big enough culprit in car/semi crashes to warrant such an expenditure. In my (unbiased of course ) experience, the semis have more often than not been the hazard on the road. How many times have you been in the left lane (on a 4 lane) cruising past slower traffic only to have a semi pull out in front of you. The jackasses do it all the time so they don't have to kick off the cruise and slow down 1/2 mile an hour, but they're content to impeded your progress by 20 miles per hour. Then the jerk-off will ride next to the other guy for MILES before finally passing. Sometimes I wish I had a hood mounted rocket launcher to blow the a$$ wipe out of my way!

Rant over. Seriously, it's a waste. Illinois has some cops running around in dark blue minivans. They pretty much can pull speeders over at any time as people are blithely blowing by them all day long. These same minivans could simply follow semis and do the same thing that they're doing in Kansas w/o the foolish waste of money on equipment and extra manpower.
