Do you only put the can on one side I hope? What is that an 8mm hole?

quattrorunner 05-29-2007 09:01 AM

Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack.

rennch 05-29-2007 11:40 AM

@ quattrorunner..it's actually not a joke. It really works. :)

rennch 05-29-2007 11:42 AM

@ Bill Verburg - Hey Bill, thanks for the shot. Do you have any from underneath the car? Otherwise it doesn't do me any good to show a guy how to weld up the muffler. That said, Jack's will probably be fine. If its essentially the same as his, then I guess I'm good to go.

@ Bill V. - Thanks for those. That's a flowmaster 80 on a 3.0?

What are the thoughts between running the inlet on the bottom and the outlets curved down at the top. Bill, yours is the opposite of that.

What do people think between the Magnaflow and Flowmaster. Pretty interchangable?

And, so I'm clear, what exactly do I need to tell the muffler folks? What size tubing do I need?

Thanks.

Mark, for me, that sounds PERFECT! I love the way it sounds. Does it perform as you expected? Any resonance? What rpms? Also, what did the muffler shop do to the tips? I like them - looks 'stock'.

THanks,
Mike

Normally I wouldn't have the hole. I lost my old can, and that was a quick replacement, and (for some reason) it had a hole in it.

The key is knowing that your muffler has a common-to-both-inlets chamber. It should go without saying that you don't want to cap off one bank of your engine.

Actually, Bill's is exactly as you describe. His inlets from his SSIs go in from the bottom and out from the top of the muffler.

Sounded great, couldn't tell a performance diff.

No resonance at any speed.

Muff shop did a slight bend back/down a couple inches from the tips. It was a great mod.

Thanks Mark. Like I said, it sounds PERFECT to me. It stinks that there wasn't a perceived performance improvement, but I think the sound is almost worth it alone.

Thanks again,
Mike

Jack...yes, I recognized that after I wrote it. It was that Magnaflow I was talking about. Silly me.

RANDY P 05-29-2007 09:31 PM

I have a single in / single out Flowmaster PN 52580-

according to the books, it's off of a Roush Mustang. Inlet / outlet same side.

It does not drone like the dual outs supposedly do. I also have a factory resonator before it - cat has been deleted.

It's a Flowmaster, but the enine is a 964 3.6 in that pic. Doesn't make a bit of difference if it's 3.0 - 3.8, except for the headers. Mine are B&B, SSI wiill have the colectors a bit closer to centerline.

I think it's less obtrusive to rout the pipes the way I did, the important thing is to have the flow going the way it's designed to go. The Inlets are labled as such.

@ DanielDudley: Still interested in that muffler...are you out there?
