Need pics of Flowmaster installs on 3.0 Engines

I'm doing a Flowmaster 80 Series (a la Jack) for my RSR'ish conversion, and I'm probably taking the car next week to the muffler shop. I want to come armed with good pictures to give the guys so they know how the install is supposed to go. It would be a dual in/dual out install. 3.0 motor with early headers. This is what I've got at the moment:

Thanks all...

I should mention that I have already notched out the RSR bumper for the tips...

I'm not sure if this is the same, but the Magnaflow I have is set up this way. Primary tubes dump into the lower set and the top tubes come down to the exhaust tips. The guy I took it to used all stainless and bumped the primary outlets off the SSI's up to 2.5 to match the flowmasters. From then on its a straight shot with no restrictions. He may need to make a custom hanger to support the muffler at the middle. Overall, a great setup.

Man, really... I think Jack Olsen said that a Flowmaster was a little more subdued... Maybe I should try the gutted stock first.

Anyway, thanks for the tip Ben. Someone just got a screamin deal on one of your 2in 2outs on evilBay. $200 I think with the shipping.

I am removing mine this week, as I cannot drive for more than 20 min. without getting a headache. It sounds great for a few, and now I bring along the ear plugs. I work with power tools BTW, so I am not a wuss when it comes to noise. I managed to ignore it for a long time, and then I started driving around it. Not too bad on the highway, but that was the only time .

PO said it was really flowing too well for optimum. Mine is a 2 in 2 out. Let me know if you want it. Cheap.

Daniel,

Is it a flowmaster 80 that you have? Got a pic of it?

rennch 05-26-2007 05:56 PM

V8-Ranch...I think one of the advantages of the flowmaster (or any of them, really) over stock is that you lose significant weight in the rear polar moment, where it really makes a difference.

At the risk of being slammed, anyone have any reasons not to run a glass pack or something like it. My thought is to put it ( a short one like a Thrush) in place of the premuff/cat and muffler. On the outlet side, run a pipe over and to the middle of valance with the dual outlet pipes. Should weigh a LOT less than the two stock items combined. It seems I saw someone post a vid clip here with a somewhat similar arrangement. Just kicking the idea around for now...

I had them on my 2.7, I liked the sound, but they were loud. It was just stuff I had laying around so I tried it.

The triad is bascially a series of glass packs so that is done all the time.

as to the flowmaster being lighter than stock I would kindly disagree. they are really heavy.

Remember this before I started my business I used flowmasters but they were just to loud, to hot(they radiat allot of heat) and to heavy.. thus my soulution. I do however love the sound so I tried to make our muffler sound as close as possible but toned down. which I think I pulled off pretty well.

If you want sound try stock with a second tail pipe. going to an aftermarket muffler is just to expensive.
V8 ranch if you would have put in a hi flow cat to your previous setup you would have been happiest the by pass makes them real loud good luck guys

Use the Magnaflows. Lighter and sound great. No issues after 2 years.

Look at Flo-Pro mufflers. I have one for a late model Camaro, single in/dual out with one side capped. It sounds great and really isn't that loud unless you are getting into it. I can carry on a conversation at speed without any problem. Cheaper than FM, too!

Ben, do you mean the high flow cat with the stock muffler?

@ 89911: Which magnaflow are you using?

@ oh Haha: Do you have any pics of the install? (Underneath) And which flo-pro are YOU using.

I guess the only reason I was using the Flowmaster is that it was a known commodity. And, since it's primary an autocross/race car, I wasn't SUPER concerned with the noise. If I had my druthers I'd run straight headers. :)

Oh Haha 05-27-2007 09:52 AM

Sorry, no good pics from underneath but if you duplicate Jack Olsen's setup that will work. Mine is a single in, BTW. Simple pipe from the premuff to the inlet and then one pipe for the outlet coming into the stock location. The other outlet is capped. I tried using it as a dual out and found the resonance to be too much. I don;t recall the part number of the muffler but they do carry generic sizes for dual inlet systems.
I had the muffler guy weld a tab on the backside of it so I could use the stock hanger. I had to connect two HD hose clamps together to simulate the muffler straps as the stock one wouldn't work. I bought the Flo-Pro because it was cheaper by almost half of the Flowmaster. Now, I see a lot of the street rods and pro street guys around here are using them.
