leaking window and a rust question
hi..drove in a heavy rain storm today and the bottom corners, bother sides, of the window leaked pretty bad...water dripping down behind dash and down door and into door pockets... i assume this will be fixed when i have a new window installed eventually. the rubber doesnt look bad but im pretty sure the window is original.
more concerning to me is that while inspecting the car closely, i noticed what i believe is a drain...rusted. the passenger side is very rusted. the driver side seems to be painted with a black rust inhibitor. its the only rust ive discovered and im not sure what to do about this..any insight would be helpful. thanks-Scott ![]()

--i guess what i would like to know about what the arrow is pointing to (behind the black wiring) is...
1. what is that? a drain? 2. why would it rust? 3. if it is a drain, where does it drain from? 4. what is the best way to fix so that rust stops growing towards the car

Probably water from the sunroof drain. Mine was also a little orange, nothing serious unless you see metal degrading.

My '72 leaked like you say yours is - into the footwells. When I removed the windshield, I found a hellascious amount of rust at the bottom corners and channel, and a decent amount of the metal portion of the dash rusted away after removing the dash pad. Good luck.

TerryH is correct. The arrow is pointing to the front sunroof drain. The bend in the drain is notorious for getting clogged, and when that happens it breeds rust. You may wish to see if your drains are clear. The rust from the outside may be from the door channel but even if the drain was leaking, it wouldn't leak into the car as you describe. Your interior leak sounds more like what Marv said, typical of a windshield seal leak. Hope his experience isn't yours also.
