I will probably do that, but I have this event in AR this Fri-Sun. I am trying to do a more thorough cleanup on the girl before then. I actually have some other things I am ordering from host tonight, I guess I will just add some P21S. Hopefully it will all get here before Friday...

Eighteen years ago when I had my 80 911sc, I used vaseline all of the time. It really made the Fuchs wheels look great!!!!
Yes, 18 years without a Porsche!!! I am in the market and am looking for that just right car. John |

John,
You ought to drive up to the Porsche Palooza event in Eureka Springs, AR this weekend. Maybe you'll find one for sale...

I thought I'd share my recipe for clean Fuch's. I've tried the vaseline and it does do a good job at hydrating the old painted centers. It does however attract brake dust easily. I have been doing this and it works really well:
1. clean wheels: I use either very diluted meg gc car soap or P21S, use a wheel woolly - no brushes 2. buff wheel dry using mf towel 3. Klasse AIO the entire wheel center and lips, remember the AIO has a cleaner in it, you can follow up with just the Klasse sealer and layer it (I've done 3 layers on mine). 4. Black magic wax the center/ buff 5. If I want to show off, I use megs trim detailer on the center (very carefully apply - not to get on discs), let sit, wipe off and buff 6. After a weekend of driving, I use a nice QD to clean the dust off. I found either megs qd does a nice job As long as you wipe the the wheels clean after each use, you don't really need go through all this every time. But the rims are old and have original finish still, but look like new. |

Thanks for that routine Palumbo. What is the Klasse AIO. I have heard of Klasse, but not sure what the AIO is...

Klasse "all in one" sometimes referred to as AIO, its an acrylic sealer with a cleaner. Klasse also sells the sealer glaze or SG. What's nice about it, you need only a little bit, and helps protect the wheels from the annoying brake dust, makes them easier to clean. (apply using a damp mf coverd sponge)After applying the AIO, you can layer the sealer with SG. Don't layer with AIO, because AIO will remove the old layer. I think Zaino has a similar line.

I should probably tell you how I clean my tires as well, because this step occurs before I clean the wheels:
-never in direct sunlight of course...- 1. Rinse wheels/tires with water 2. Spray Welty's bleach white on the tires only, this removes the old tire gel and oxidation from the rubber 3. scrub tires only with natural bristle brush, the white suds turn brown real fast removing all the crap and oxidation 4. hose off immediately as you don't want this stuff to dry on your wheels or sit too long. 5. procede to clean the wheels I will try to clean the tires before doing an autoX out of courtesy for the inspectors - they inspect your wheel bearings by grabbing the wheel and check for play. Old tire gel with brake dust on bare hands is a mess. Last edited by Palum6o; 11-05-2007 at 11:48 AM.. |

Vaseline on Fuchs
WOW!! I tried it this Saturday and what a difference. I rubbed it in by hand on both the anodized lip and the center, and it made the look 100% better. I did not stop there. I also tried it in the window frames (front & back). Amazing what simple "petroleum jelly" can do. My trick is to buff it down with a microfiber towel after taking off the excess with a terry towel. Leaves the perfect sheen. Thanks for the tip. That is why I'm addicted to this board!

I did this the other night before leaving for Porsche Palooza... It was the first time... All I can say is do it when it's warm, and use VERY sparingly. I actually put mine on the wheels while warm, but let it set overnight as some had suggested. The next morning was 40-50 degree range and it waqs not fun to wipe off! I think I may just got the polish and wax route in the future. Someone posted something here or elsewhere about some new super wheel polish/wax stuff he saw at SEMA I think. Any one used it yet adn can post results?
