Permatune v MSD Performance
Does the MSD or Permatune have a distinct performance difference? I searched and read some threads, but most say the issue with Permatune is reliability.
I ask because my SC currently has a Permatune installed in 2004 that works fine. Of course I read my 101 Projects book and it says MSD is the recommended route. Basically, I am planning on gapping my plugs up to .65 and possibly installing some parts I have in the garage: Jacobs coil and MSD. I want to make sure it is worth it before I dive in. Thanks! My Permatune: ![]()

You won't see any change in performance one way or another. If the Permatune works, I would just stick with it until it doesn't. I've been running an MSD 6AL for a few years now, and I'm happy with it, but I did not instal it for any performance gains. I only installed it because my Bosch box failed and I needed something quick.
There has been some talk about MSD failures, with some folks speculating that they may be related to the large plug gaps some like to run with them. That might bear looking into. I run mine at .045", for whatever that's worth.

Ok, great! The Permatune stays until it earns a ride to the trash can. I get 4 hours to dedicate to something else.
I will start the gap at 0.45. The car runs fine, this is a "while you're in there" thing. Any idea if the Jacobs coil is compatable with the Permatune? I was reading here that the coil does not like CDI systems, but that may have only been the Bosch.
