As usual Ove takes the prize, lovely work and he is dead right, stock bumpers are not light and cutting them up in a surreptitious way is a nice idea. I am going to get a bit more evil with mine soon but this is the rear:

Here's my version.....

Rear bumperettes on my car were 18 pounds for the pair and then I took the rear bumper shocks off. They weighed 10 pounds together. I made my own crash tubes that weighed 4 pounds for the pair. So I have a total of 24 pounds savings just on the bumper.

Well I was going to wait until I got my M&K exhaust on, (doing it tomorrow), but what the hell... With the bumper guards off and the M&K vs. the OEM muffler, a weight loss of 22 lbs.

on a 73 i had. rear corners reshaped to blend into SC fender extensions, center section filled with a chunk of front bumper, and sheetmetal across the bottom.

Where did you guys get the rear license plate lights?

We have a company here in Fort Collins that will match the body color and put it in rattle cans for you.

Anybody use rattle can paint and clear coat? Or did you all use a local paint and body shop? What would you recommend?

I have a 77 (narrow rear with little fender flare)

Has anyone reshaped the rear Ruf yellow bird bumper to fit the narrow body?

I think the front yellow bird bumper would bolt right up.

Can't find a rear that is a direct fit up. But am thinking that the yellow bird could be easily reshaped. Wondering if anyone has done it or seen it done.

THIS is an 83 SC

Glass front fenders, glass bumpers front and rear, no bumperettes, no fat asz turbo whaletail, no bumper shocks, glass hoods front and rear, light weight tail lights and front signals, RS carpet kit, sound deadening removed off the floors, doors and engine compartment.........320 lbs of crap hit the floor....

Oh yeah...I got on the bike and lost 30lbs of my fat butt as well....

jhubs... The lights are from our host, the bummer is like over night they went from 30 some bucks to 80 some!! This increase is from the mfg. not Pelican. BTW they're from a Bimmer. As far as the paint goes I purchased a pint of my color along with hardner, no clear coat for the lights, valence, and bumper. I painted them myself. A lot of people think it's the clear that gives the shine. Well as you can see it's not needed IMO just for these smaller items. I myself left the front bumper alone thats why I left the rub strips on, too match the front. I like the OEM look of them along with the bellows.

I haven't done anything yet to the front bumper. If I do, it may involve a RUF type bumper with a center oil cooler.

Hey Jerry, I got some of my inspiration from your thread was awesome. I filled my holes in with thickened epoxy vs. welding, (cost), and it works fine.

Ok, I really want to do this bumper modification as I want a "cleaner look" front and back. I realize that a 5 MPH "bump" is going to do damage to the paint because the rubber has been removed, and may even require dent removal, but IMO, the plastic bumpers are "explosive devices" and would require much more $$$ to repair.

Now, the question I have for all of you is this. Does this modification lower the value of the car or raise the value? This is not a big issue with me as I look at Porsche ownership as a hobby and you can't expect to make money from your hobbys. But, if I were to sell my car in the next 5 years, have I destroyed its value because it is no longer "stock" or increased its value as it is now "custom"?
