RETIRED

Keep the parts and then let the new owner decide to put it back on to keep it the way you modified it.....

Depends on the buyer... some will pay more for a modified car, if it's what they want.
Many will pay less, but keeping the original parts is a very good idea. Depends on the buyer. |

It's a fiberglass DP replica, it uses a factory rubber edge but is extended 8" to allow the use of a huge full bay intercooler.

Thanks for the complement, it took a lot of knuckle skin, a boatload of money, and two years of working on it almost every day to get it to this, it hauls a$$ too, I data log 0-100 mph in under 7 seconds regularly.

![]() ![]() Just started my project to smooth out my bumper I am going to use jb weld on this to make it somewhat reversible but am going to tig weld studs to the backside and drill out the bumper shocks or use crush tubes if I can find some, also using the BMW 2002 license plate lights.

gsmith,
Like jhubs, I am looking forward to watching your project as well. I hope you will keep posting progress on here. I am curious about the JB Weld. I have never used it in bodywork before... is it sandable once cured. I am assuming it has to be, but wonder how difficult to work with. While I like the idea of welding things in for a "finished" job, I also think your idea might be the smart wat to go and have a "reversible" project when done. Which JB product did you use? On the reversal end, how easy is it to remove JB weld from Al metal? Will it chip off like body filler, or does it fuse into the Al at all? Sorry, you may not know the answers... just thinking out loud... Knowing this now, I may have to try to move my bumper projects up on the list a bit... Been busier than a one-legged man stomping ants at a picnic the last few weeks!

Also, I would love to see anyones ideas on the bumper shock or euro crushtubes attachment. I was thinking of making my own crushtube out of rolled up expanded lathe of some sort. I know someone else did their own crush tubes also, but not sure how they did it...

My thought is jb weld is good and strong I used it to repair an intake manifold that a jacka-- mechanic had fubared on my blazer and the guy rebuilding the motor right now was impressed at how strong the joint is but by the same token if I want to reverse this at some point then all I have to do is remove the bumper and I have nicely delineated holes on the back side to drill out, I will still have a plate with studs welded on the back side because the studs on the bumper will still let me go back to the stock look and will be a good strong mounting point with the modified shocks. As for jb weld can be worked just like steel once it is fully cured I intend to take the high pionts off with course sandpaper and a lite coat of aluminum filler to finish. Since I am going to do a respray paint doesn't figure into the cost and parts and labor for the rest I figure 25 to 30 bucks. Pretty cost effective mod for the big change in appearance it gives. more pics to follow
