Targa Top seal problem

Just to review. As many of us Targa top owners know the correct over the windshield frame to Targa top seal has not been available now for years. In fact the last time it was made was 1995. If you ordered one the later 90-94 seal came in the bag and this seal is 20% to big. I have been working with a supplier for the past 4 months to get the correct one made. I even gave up my last remaining correct seal to be used in the mold to gwet one made.

I received the sample on Friday and pulled seal off a 79 Targa I have in the garage to compare. They matched. I then installed the seal on the Targa and put the top on. Top Looked great, laid flat and top fit just about perfect.

I contacted supplier and told him he got the copy correct. I expect to be shipping seals in a little over 6 weeks. I will know pricing by the beginning of next week.

PS he also sent me a sample of the small plastic trim rossett that covers the latch opening on 69-86 top. It too was correct.

I have about 50 people on my list and will begin doing invoices when I hear new seals are on the way.

This new seal will be a salvation to us Targa owners.

Dan,

Your thread is entitled: Targa Top Seal Problem. I was expecting bad news. Sounds like it's all good...or did I miss something.

Thanks,
Mike

That's great news Dan!
I successfully replaced the rear targa bar seal a few months ago and the plastic rivets I bought seem to be too big for my 1971 targa. Do you have any incite on this?

Scott,
If you are referring to the rivets available from Pelican, I don't think they are too big. You just need to use "the proper tool" to get those suckers in. Check out this thread Targa bar seal plastic rivet install-pics

Dan,
Anxiously awaiting pricing (and glad this is a solution thread, rather than a problem thread).

You get on the order list by sending me a check for the Intro price of $179.99 + $8 ship. I will do an invoice and ship when I receive stock. I have been told 6 weeks max. Here is hoping. This will be our Targa's second lease on life. Check made out to Cars Inc with new seal in memo section.

I still have the sample on the car with one of my new tops and it lays flat.

Dan, I have no doubts because it's coming from you, but have you washed the car with this seal on it yet?

I can't wait to mail my check tomorrow!

Is this the same seal as used on the cabriolet? Do you have any pictures?

Thanks,
