Ken,
No, I wouldn’t put the onus on the over-worked/uncaring Miami/Dade law enforcement. I think I can do this from here. Ok, how to proceed? In the next few days I’ll talk to my local (Denver) Postal Inspector. I’ll also contact our Colorado US Attorney General. The good news is that it is represented as having both the engine and transmission rebuilt here in Denver. I know everyone so I can easily check the validity of the claim. I’m willing to spec $1600 for an SC engine & trans if as represented. I don’t need one but someone will. That is an inexpensive price. If a scam, the seller won’t accept a US Postal Money order delivered by Certified US Mail. I suspect the Postal Service can flag the MO to require better than normal ID. Another thought is to have my MO and the engine/trans delivered to a local shop for a PPI. Again, if it is a scam he won’t go for it. Who are reputable Porsche shops in Miami/Dade? Please email me or post. If a valid sale a Pelican may have a project, if a scam, let’s put the crooks behind bars. I’m sure Craigslist is willing to work with the Feds. Best, Grady (Noah, the link is above on mid p. 1)

Grady,
The engine, along with the same story is on ebay right now, item #130124162467. I asked if my local buddy could come see it, here is the response: "Sure. He may call me at 307-235-8552, my office. It is at my lot in Glenrock currently."

Best Independent Porsche Shop in Miami:
Scott Findley Motorsports 5750 Progress Road S. Miami, FL 33143-3650 305-661-6479 Shop is just off S. Dixie Hwy, N. of Kendall and S. of Coral Gables. Best of luck! Lot of "Slippery Dicks" in Miami... better go in packing some serious "Heat". I never take less than my S&W .40... with my PPKS as backup!

Upon entering the engine # in the NCIC Article File, the
computer will come up with a "hit" or no hit. If a "hit", it will indicate all pertinent data, ie; S/N of engine, code ID for agency that entered the record, (that's the jurisdiction where it was reported stolen), and date of record. The inquiring agency, (your cop) then sends a request for verification of the hit, and waits for entering agency to research and verify that item wasn't previously recovered. Now, if still hot, your cop picks up the engine and sends a "locate" message through NCIC to the agency of record, and they notify the owner of the recovery. The entering agency then removes the "hit" from NCIC. There's a little more to it than that, but in nutshell, that's what I did for Mpls. PD/Auto theft for 9 years.

I f it is the guy in Wyoming I am thinking of I don't think he is a thief, but he is very strange. I would still be very carefull but you may be surprised to find out it is legit. I just sold a 70 tub on e-baythat is not in the best shape usual rust but straight and the winning bidder was from Brazil and wanted it shipped to Mountvideo Uruguay.
I thought it was a scam because shipping cost wis going to be $5,500 from Colorado and the high bid was 1,275 he paid me 1,310 via pay-pal the extra was to cover the pay-pal fee's and he is taking care of the shipping. The guy is nuts and I gave him several oportunities to back out.

I think the guy in miami took the guys pic from ebay at some point, notice the craigslist guy does not use the photo with the dog. Also the ebay seller was fine with a friend taking a look, and provided a phone #.

I agree, I do not think the Miami CL lister is the same person as the Wy Ebay lister. We should find a Miami Pelicans with some big friends and ask to view it.

Although I found it strange that in the Miami Craigslist ad it stated the hood of the crashed vehicle was kept in place to protect the engine from rain and snow. I've been in Florida for about 13 years now and I don't remember it snowing in Miami !!!????
