Formal intro & another noobie question

Hi there,

Just thought I'd introduce myself - I've been lurking here since I bought my 76 911 Coupe in March - searching the archives to answer most of my questions and even had one answered - all very helpful - this is a great resource.

This is my first P Car - I bought it (sort of unintentionally) from a 'rally buddy' who runs a '77 911 up here. I decided to switch from owning my own rally car to just co-driving and having a weekend road toy - (believe it or not it's cheaper).

*Love* the car (boyhood dream - I was 6 when this car was made and this was around the time I became car crazy) -- and now I've started tinkering with it here and there.

Anyway - I have no aux. oil cooler, the thermal reactors have been replaced with the 3-1 pipes, 11 blade, running 20w50 Castrol dino, ambient temp about 30C, shifting at around 5K, cruising at around 2.5K. I'm getting oil temps sometimes as high as 230F.

An aux cooler is part of the plan, in the meantime, since the A/C compressor was previously removed, I thought I'd pull the rear condenser to improve air flow through the grill.

Funny thing (and my question finally): oil came out of a hose attached to the condenser. Is this normal?

Adjunct: anybody else lower oil temps after pulling their condenser?

Any input appreciated - thanks for reading thru all that.

Robin Fleguel

Regarding the oil from the condenser. Your compressor had approximately 4 to 6 ounces of compressor oil that mixes with the Freon.
The oil also lubricates the compressor during its use.

Don't worry. It's VERY common to have oil exit the condenser, freon lines and the receiver dryer. If you decide to have the AC system restored to working order, the AC shop will add the necessary oil to the compressor.

Send a message via AIM to vash
on my 75 car, i did not see any improvements in oil temps when i dumped the AC components. once i put the carrera cooler on, it was "game on", and i could drive relatively hard without ever getting the motor super hot.
