Partial Engine drop?

Been doing a lot of reading and research. I have a couple oil leaks on a SC and the only way to get to them is either remove all the C.I.S. (not happening) or lower the engine down. I have thought about and researched all the engine lowering techniques. From full drop w/trans, full drop without/trans, and the partial drop. The partial drop sounds like the way to go. Problem is I can’t find a good step by step procedure. Does anyone have one, or perhaps using this thread we could put one together for the future ? Pictures would be a plus. Pictures with arrows and subtitles would be even better.

Shawn,
I did a partial drop a few summer's ago and it was easy. I used Wayne's "101 Projects" book and didn't remove the engine completely, but loosened the tranny to engine bolts, and was able to replace the rear shocks, sound pad, motor mounts and bracket, all fuel and vacuum lines and a bunch of CIS parts, as well as fix the oil leaks from the thermostat, breather, etc... A partial engine drop is so easy that even I can do it!

Shawn,

Do you know where the oil is coming from?

I have just replaced my oil pressure sender thinking that was the source of my oil leak. I lowered the engine a couple inches at the rear to get make it easier to remove the rubber on top of the CIS. Removing the rubber will not make it easier to reach the oil press.sender, but with a mirror by the fire wall you can see what you're doing.

If you are very careful not letting the engine drop too far down all you have to do is remove the rear engine mount bolts and loosening the transmission mount bolts a bit.

I would not recommend this procedure because I could have taken the engine out and put it back in in less time than it took working with the engine in the car.

I ended up taking the engine out anyway, but that's another story. Or maybe not... The leak may come from your thermostat housing or from the seal on the small crankcase breather cover. To get to those parts i believe you have to take the engine out, or at least do a 2 feet "partial" drop.

Here's a pic after I removed the engine. The oil press sender is red, the thermostat housing is behind it. Oil breather hose is above it (the source of my leak), going to the oil crankcase cover.

Good luck

I am pretty sure mine is one of the three that you mentioned.

I would like a step by step if anyone could take some time and jot it down. I think I need to do the "big" partial drop to access that area.
