Alternator replacement - problem
The alternator repair shop that I took my alternator to says that he cannot remove the fan from the alternator. Says that he does not have the correct puller to remove it without damaging the fan. Anyone know of a repair shop in the Bremerton / Silverdale area that could do this?

Are you talking about the cooling fan? I know they can get stuck on after awhile but I would think with some PB Blaster and some light tapping it should pop right off--at least mine did. I believe Wayne has a section in his book about this. I used some lube on my fan shaft and it will slide right off without any fuss now (came in handy to bead blast it the other day).
You might suggest trying PB Blaster but I would probably do it myself as it doesn't take much force to chip a blade and I don't know if I would trust someone who isn't in the know with a NLA part.

Forgot to add, if it is stuck you have to take the fan and housing off the engine to get the fan off the shaft. Don't be like the PO of my car and use a screwdriver b/c you will chip a blade.

heat up the fan with a torch and tap the bolt while pulling on the fan. be careful not to damage the fins or burn yourself. also the fan will expand and may get jammed in the fan housing a little so i had to rotate it to where it wouldnt stick
