MSD Connections

MSD 6AL

Don't know what to do with the small white wire.
My CDI connection is three pin - black, red and blueish w/yellow stripe.
I have the small red wire from the MSD connected to the red wire in the connector.
Here is the confusion - I have two wires coming from the dizzy, black and red. I assume the PO has converted to an optical trigger or similar.
Should the small white wire from the MSD connect to the black wire in the CDI connector?
What to do with the red wire coming from the dizzy?
Do I abandon the blueish w/yellow stripe?
I assume I don't use the purple and green from the MSD!
How to connect my tach adapter?

howard,
go to the MSD website and download the installation instructions for the MSD6AL. This should help you out. I have the MSD6A with a pertronix ignitor, instead of points. let me know if the MSD instructions get you going. If you still have questions email me at alkosmal@hotmail.com and I will help. i have the instructions, as well as my sketch of how I hooked up my 77S in the garage.

regards,

al

Howard -
Al got his response in while I was out looking at my recent 6AL install. I think the short answer to your question is yes, the white wire from the MSD box connects to the black wire from your distributor.

However, as Al suggests, go to the MSD website and look over the instructions for the 6AL. When I installed mine a few months ago, there was an exact schematic of my set-up that was super easy to follow.

Also like Al, I have a '77 2.7. I did not need a tach adapter to get my tack to work. I did have to splice in another wire however. I think it's earlier cars that need the adapter - I didn't see any info about your car in your post.

many guys around here dump the rev limiting rotor w/msd.

i use starter main power lug for feeding the msd.

I also used a bus bar to connect my Pertronix instead of solder or a pin connector.

I removed stock ignition harness and built my own.

Check ignition timing after install.

Keep the msd box as vented as possible. They run hot on 85F+ days w/only street driving.
