Please listen to this 3.2 idle
idle
This is only my second 911, my other also being an '86, and I'm convinced the idle on this car is not as smooth as it should be. I'm also convinced it's not as strong as I remember my other one being. It seems to run great, yet I just have this feeling something is not right - power does not seem to come on as strong as I remember from my last one and throttle response just seems dull. Sometimes I think it's in my head, I don't know. I don't have enough experience with 911s to draw any real conclusions. I've checked for vacuum leaks, checked the oxygen and cht sensor, and just today refurbished the afm so the wiper arm moves on a new track - that did seem to help initial throttle response some. Of course, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Still have to change the fuel filter, adjust valves and check injectors. So, can I get some opinions. Does this sound normal and I'm just insane? Or do you think it's a little rough? Note - engine was at operating temp when this was taken. PS - I also don't think it starts as it should. Always seems to crank a few times, I'm thinking it should light immediately, but again - might just be me being anal.

I think it's time for a Steve Wong chip. People say the idle is better, throttle response is better and overall performance is better. How can you beat all that in one deal? Pelican sells them.

I had about the same idle surge on my 3.2. It ended up being the fuel injectors. sounds nice though.

It doesn't sound too bad. An Italian tune-up with a strong dose of Techron may smooth things out. Some, including myself, have had good luck using water to decarbonize valves and combustion chambers. Your idle mixture may be off as well.
The Wong chip is the best bang for the buck mod for the 3.2, increasing both power and driveability. Don't forget to check that the throttle is fully open when you push the pedal to the floor.

Thanks all - I'm definitely going with a Steve W chip, I've been reading about them here for quite awhile and I'm sold. I just wanted to make sure everything else is in top shape before I put one in.
Looks like my suspicions are right, there is probably nothing really wrong. Time to start driving and quit worrying for awhile!
