Tim, do you realize that you just put law abiding and Rhode Island in the same paragraph? Are you new here?

I'm form Cape Cod, and not afraid to cross the bridge. Going to Farnbacher/Loles on Saturday.
I think I know Jim from our group runs. But if not, come over and introduce yourself. I'm the tall guy with the Grey ponytail. Jim, I grew up on Long Island. See you there. Steven/Newsboy |

I think the way to solve these issues is to have the law breakers from the Cape relocated to RI - now, break the law, no problem, go for a drive no bridges to deal with. Oh wait, thats' an issue.
I say - just shoot them.

Speaking of RI, here's a funny DMV issue I ran into the other day.
So my registration expires this year and my car is 25years old now (1984 Carrera). Turns out 25 year is a magic number in RI DMV; first you no longer need to pass any emissions testing, meaning they will still test the car at inspection time but if you fail emissions you still get an inspection sticker. But wait the story gets better, turns out the car also can now get antique registration (plates). So I ask about these antique plates and find out that this type of registration only costs $16.00 for 2 years (the regular registration costs $65.00) but it's even better yet! Only in RI could they pull this next part off: if you have antique plates the car is COMPLETELY exempt from inspection & emissions! So guess what kind of plates are now on my car? The fine print says you should only use antique plates for taking the car to and from shows or events, I figure I really don't drive the car much so I should be OK. Then I asked a few Police Officer buddies here and they said if I pull you over I'm looking for valid registration and insurance if you can show me these 2 docs you are set to go. The only thing that bothers me a little is driving around without an inspection sticker (but remember it's not required on antique plates) but without the stick it's a RED flag to get pulled over and then explain to the officer you are exempt. I'm not sure who was the RI brain child behind thinking it's OK for OLD cars to not be inspected, as I said only in RI.

I think here in the "We Don't Even Kiss You First State" you can only drive 7500 miles on 'early american' plates.

Hey Mark, and the rest of you goodie two shoes,
Of course like the rest of you, the cars have been away for the winter but they're comming out soon. I believe that my bro Mike has signed us up for a Limerock DE day in april with SCDA, I would love to have some of you guys come with us. I will get more details and post them here. I haven't had a whole lot of time this winter to work on stuff ( 2 other project cars now ) but the 74 targa will be running strong this season. Looking forward to seeing you guys. |

Which one Jack? the 7th or the 20th? I was thinking of signing up for the 20th, in the goodie-two-shoes class

Not sure which one yet, although I was thinking later in the month so must be the 20th. That would be great to get a group to go, we are going to try to do several of them this year.

Hopefully we'll have a run before then and we can talk. If not I'll sent you off a PM with my phone # and we can talk. Would be cool to get a bunch of the Breakfast CLub up there.

I just love that word - oxymoron. How about ALL us degenerate car constipated frozen Yankees ( and Red Sox as well) meet up for the Lime Rock Historic Grand Prix weekend in May ?

As of last November, cars 1995 or older in Ma., do not need an emissions test either. Were you able to get a reduced rate on your insurance? If so, any driving limitations. |
