Keep it if you have to pass smog, ditch it if you don't.

It handles the gas fumes from the front mounted gas tank. I think it is filled with charcoal, like an aquarium filter. In reading up on it on this BBS, I found more people said to keep it than ditch it. I plan to keep mine even though I don't have emissions tests.
