Shift knob working itself loose
I have an aftermarket shift knob that uses a crush sleeve (like the stock one). I purchased a new crush sleeve (from our host), inserted it in the shift knob and using a small pine board as a buffer, pounded it on. Now after a day or so, the knob is loose, lifted about 1/4 to a 1/2 inch and has the be pounded down again. It has done this several times. What am I doing wrong?
I have also tried twisting it around a couple of times before hammering it down but in as little a few hours it is loose again? I may just bite the bullet, drill a small hole and insert a set screw but I thought I pick the collective brain of the board first. Thanks

I gave up and used Super Glue on my shift knob and I just drove the car 600 miles without it working itself loose...

you could try wrapping the shaft with duct tap to tighten the connection. otherwise i would glue it. im partial to momo, allen set screw type nobs. they stay tight for a while but even they need tightening once and a while

I think I will try the duct tape method first. Thanks

My Momo knob with 3 set screws kept working loose on my aluminium Rennshifter shaft. Despite the steel screws actually biting into the aluminium! I tried loctite and even that was only good for a short period.
I finally wrapped some tape just under the knob to act as a platform for the knob and then reappled loctite to the set screws. So far it's holding well. If this fails then I'm back to the screw on knob. Simon
