Backdated Dash ?
Hi All,
I'm about to embark on an 82SC to 74 IROC conversion, and I'm keen to backdate the dash to the early style. Has anyone done this and can share some tips? basically I'd like the heater controls and radio to be in the same horizontal plane, with the aluminium trim surrounding them... ( I'm assuming this is what a 74 had - I use my 69 as a reference ). Thanks. Craig H. _____________________________ 69 911E RS Replica 3.0L 915 Webers 93 968CS 82 911SC Soon to be IROC RSR 3.6L |

Graig i think 74 was the year they changed to the "newer type" interior like on your SC. I think an SC dash would look more period correct than a 69 dash.

yeah - it's all the same underneath. Just change all the covering stuff (which will cover the vents)

I've been planning on doing this with my backdated '81 chassis (morphing into a '73 RSR creation).
It sounds like a '69-'73 dash pad is a direct bolt in? |

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to go searching for some pics of an original 74 RSR dash. Feel free to post one here!
That said though, I really find the simplicity of the early ( pre-73 ) dash much more appealing than the SC dash. Why is the heater control panel offset upward in the SC?! Although I've just realised, that maybe only us RHD guys that have dash like this.... Craig H

on lhd cars, it is a simple matter of obtaining the aluminum face trim, removing the foam, and attaching the early trim to your dash. the glove box door cover on lhd cars needs to be milled slightly to clear the lock. The early fresh air controls swap out as well. There could be some detail differences on hole location, but that is a minor concern as the early alloy trim uses the vinyl insert (which can cover it). You will need to source the early knob centers for the switches. The turn signal switch and wiper switch can be replaced with correct 74 bits too
Finally , the guages can be refaced to match the 74 RSR

I can't comment on the RHD vs. LHD, but maybe these images will help.

TRE Cup hit the nail on the head. I need to source some early dash aluminium trim pieces.

hello early sport
You are doing a 74 IROC backdate conversion? My bad: just re-read your first post: the 1974 model used the foam paneling on the dash with a single lever upper (of the three levers) on the fresh air control. There are some logo differences on the knobs , but they are the same as the 82. The turn signal and wiper switches were aluminum "wand" versus the plastic paddles that the 82 had. Pelican may have them available. The dashpad itself is supposed to be the version with no center vent, but upper speaker grill. The end vents on the dash are the same as the 82. A factory radio block off plate is available (we stock them). The fasten seat belts indicator lamp is a smaller single row unit than the 82 (which shows the brake indicator as part of it)
