Had both....on different trannies....the Wevo is an excellent 915 shifter. Rennshift is a good 901 addition....I wasn't aware that Rennshift made a 915 model. But he does good work.

I like my Rennshift. The throw is a little longer than the Wevo, which I find to my liking. I also prefer that moving out of 5th is routine and not "locked in" as with the Wevo.

Shifting progression:
1st was factory SC RS short shifter, great improvement. 2nd was Stomski racing linkage, noticeable but not a huge difference 3rd was a sachs sports clutch, alu clutch basket, very fun 4th was redline tranny oil, big difference versus the overhyped swepco 5th was a tranny swap and full rebuild, verdict: awesome shifting. Not to bash the wevo stuff or say its not beautifully made or thought out but I really dont think anything beats a full and well thought out tranny rebuild along with the proper oil and new bushings/bearing linkages. I have heard and seen people bash the factory short shifter but to be honest there has never been a problem with it. Anyone who thinks they can get an old porsche trans to shift as quickly or smoothly as a new honda/audi/porsche/whatever trans is dreaming. I went for positive, precise, no slack shifting and thats what i got, no need to hurry the shifts. For a comparison base I have driven cars with all kinds of short shifters and shift kits, linkages, oil, gear ratios, clutches and what not, I am thoroughly pleased with what I have. The only thing I would do differently is flip the trans upside down and run a 935 style shifter lol.

I put a rennshifter on my car and I think it is the single best thing I have done to it.
I am sure the Wevo is good as well but personally I like the fact that the rennshift replaces the whole shifter, not reusing old parts. If you are thinking of tracking your car at all you should consider one. It really will help prevent the money shift. It is way cheaper than a rebuild.

I'm biased, but It's a Rennshift for me.
I'm biased in the fact that James used my car as the templete to make the 911 version of the Rennshifter. That and he regularly works on my car with me. That said, he knows his stuff, uses high quality parts, and it literally took me longer to take the boot off my older shifter than it took to install the new one. I have one installed in my (new to me) 1980 SC. It was the first thing I bought for the car after I got it home. Shifts like a dream, and it didn't shift that bad when I bought it. Because I know him, I asked for a longer shaft, and the greatest throw reduction. I can't say anything about the Wevo, but I know the Rennshift is good.

I think a lot of the Swepco hype comes from people that purchase cars with 100k-200k miles on them and the fluid in the tranny has never been addressed and is neglected, in goes the Swepco and it now has god like powers for shifting which probably just replaced black tar for fluid in the first place. What type of Redline are you using?

i just spent big bucks on a full trick rebuild. The rebuilder is a well known 915 track guru in the NW. he said Swepco ps: "big bucks" = $4,992. that's not including $400 round trip shipping

I think a lot of the Swepco hype comes from people that [raced 911] cars with [many hard] miles on them and the fluid in the tranny [w]as [always] addressed and [never]neglected, in goes the Swepco and it now has god like powers for shifting which [were never found in any trans fluid before Swepco was introduced].
- That is the history as I understand it. Look thru some old Pano's for more info. - I'm sure there are other good trans. fluids for the 901/911/915. |
