SCWDP Badge Order Info - Finally!
Hey guys! Just heard back from our badge maker and I feel good about the final details now.
The website is not ready (duh!)... Bob Butler has graciously offered to help put it together, but everyone has personal lives and it may be a few days, etc before we are ready with that. So, I think I have figured out a decent way to accept your orders and keep things organized and orderly. I am going to use the Paypal invoice system. Here is what needs to happen.: You send me an email (vanweys@charter.net)[ When you email me, PLEASE PUT PELICAN SCWDP BADGE ORDER in the subject line.] telling me your email address you use for Paypal, and tell me how many badges you want to purchase. I will then invoice you fom Paypal requesting payment. You pay through Paypal and we have an order! For those that can't or won't use Paypal, please email me with the same info and state that you need to pay by mail for whatever reason. If you are anywhere other than US or Canada, you will need to email me your shipping info so I can get you a quote for postage. As stated before, the cost will be $38 per badge including shipping and packaging for each badge, shipped (once again) to anywhere in US or Canada. The cost is $68 for 2 badges shipped as above. We need to set a deadline for the initial order. I leave for Kona, HI next Thursday, so let's set the deadline for next Tuesday, 8/14. I will probably order a few extras for stragglers or those out of town. We have to order at least 40 badges to place the order. It will take 3-5 weeks for me to receive the badges, depending on their workload. If you should have any further questions, please feel free to email me. When you email me, PLEASE PUT PELICAN SCWDP BADGE ORDER in the subject line. Thanks, Shane Van Wey vanweys@charter.net ![]()

So what makes a badge anyway?
Well, I got reigned by on e of the "evil moderators" (their own words
![]() So, in an effort to appease the "evil moderators" (just kidding), and try to answer Norm's questions, I thought I would post a little ditty here about how these badges were made... Manufacturing of an auto badge 101 1. A computer-generated drawing is fed onto our automated pattern cutter. This ensures that no discrepancy occurs between approved design, and our engraver's artistic interpretation . . . . .What is drawn and submitted will be exactly what you get. 2. The approved design will be broken down to a computer-generated blueprint, this in turn will be used as a pattern for mold making. 3. Actual mold work begins. 4. A slab of modeling clay is pressed against the negative. This creates an imprint of the final product. ![]() (Photo of a clay imprint) 5) The clay imprint is reviewed by no less than three craftsmen. This is actually redundant but we really wouldn't want to stamp our hallmark onto anything that is less than perfect. We give lifetime guarantees against workmanship defects. 6) Mold is de-burred and polished to ensure that no "noise" such as hairline cracks, dimples, and irregularities are transfered onto the finished product. 7) The finished and approved metal mold is heat-treated, a necessary step before it can be subjected to pressures of up to 50 tones per square inch. 8) The mold is again cleaned, polished, and checked for defects. 9) Once the mold passes our scrutiny, stamping begins. 10) Stamped 1/8" thick pieces are cut to shape and de-burred. 11) Rough polishing is then done. ![]() (Photo of a rough polished badge) 12) Finishing options such as cloisonne, electroplating, engraving, etc. are then applied. 13) Final polishing and cleaning is done at this time. 14) Each piece is checked for minute defects. Small errors that are nearly invisible to the naked eye are rectified. 15) Finally, each badge receives a clear coat of epoxy to make it impervious to the elements. ![]()

Looks like an extra $5 should cover that (based on USPS website), but let me verify tomorrow at the Post Office and I will get back to you. Thanks

Looks like we'll make the 40 minimum! We are certainly on track anyway. I will start sendign out invoices tomorrow. Please, again, if you have NOT emailed already, do so, and I will use the email list to contact you on updates. I just want to keep the OT traffic to a minimum.
I have some help on the website now and so maybe that will come about faster than I thought. Things usually go smoother for me when I am finally ready to admit that I need help! ![]() ![]() Thanks again all (can't say guys anymore can we Angela ![]()

That is a darn fine badge. I would really like one, but I canīt very well put it on my Carrera, can I ??
![]() This plot is gaining to much leverage. Us 3.2 owners need to take action, producing a similar badge - albeit bigger! ![]() Seriously, it looks great. Well done!
