OK guys, I need some help pricing a collection of junk I bought. I need to get some appropriate numbers before I put it all on the FS Forum.
1967 912 Karmann coupe VIN 458xxx Complete without engine or transmission (has a VW in it and drives). Has conversion to late (’74->) bumpers, fenders and doors. Whale tail. Aftermarket seats. Fake BBS wheels. 911 oil tank installed. Has ’66 911 wood dash. The chassis is the most rust-free I have seen in 4 decades. There is absolutely no sign of rust at the doorjambs, front pan, etc. There is one rust spot on the cowl at the windshield gasket passenger side, probably from being washed and not driven. This chassis should go to a 1967 911S that is a nice, complete original car but has a rusty chassis. This swap would save someone $30K+ and be more original than a proper chassis repair. The inventory of parts that need to come off and be sold are: Late bumpers, F&R Late fenders. Short hood Whale-tail Complete doors. Seats 1600 VW eng & trans (I'll post this on thesamba) 1968 912 Karmann coupe VIN 1280xxxx Stripped interior with full cage installed. Unknown if it complies but looks proper. No engine or transmission. Late front suspension, standard SWB rear suspension. 911 oil tank installed. FRP fenders, hood, ducktail, bumpers (has the steel parts also). The OE parts are: Bumper. Hood Deck lid Chassis looks nice, no obvious crash or rust. This is an unfinished project car. This is a perfect start for a 2.0 vintage racer or to replace a crashed race chassis. 1974 911S Targa VIN 911431xxxx Fender damage LR, white/chrome, paint acceptable. No engine or transmission. Perfect Targa top. No signs of rust or crash damage (I’ll inspect further.) Everything else looks nice and original The question on this car is it worth more in parts or as a roller? I’m going to keep a few bits & pieces (<3%) to help with my posts on the forums. All I want is to break even otherwise. This is the first Porsche stuff I have bought in more than 20 years and I NEED HELP pricing. Thanks guys. ![]() Best, Grady

Hey Grady I would think a rust free shell will bring 1000-2000.00 I just sold a 69 912 to a guy in Canada for 1000.00. The 74 targa shell will be one that is going to be hard to get rid of.....
The two parts that stick out of value is the Targa top and the whale tail to the right individual they have some value.. Tony

Grady, pictures would be a big help to set price and necessary to sell. Here's my $.02 on values
This chassis should go to a 1967 911S that is a nice, complete original car but has a rusty chassis. This swap would save someone $30K+ and be more original than a proper chassis repair. $2,000 - $4,000 The inventory of parts that need to come off and be sold are: Late bumpers, F&:trim, valence, rubber spolier, smile, bumperettes included? the bumpers themselves are close to worthless since so many people take off and install plastic. valence: $50 to $100 smile: $50 bumperettes: $80 - $250 Late fenders: $100 - $250 each side. Short hood: $50 Whale-tail: Factory? Rubber tightly connected to the glass? $350 - $600 Complete doors: handles with keys included? $100 - $200 each Seats: Year? type? headrests? Many times headrests will go for more than the seats. Sold a concourse set to a fellow in Ireland for his RS for $250 for the pair. 1600 VW eng & trans (I'll post this on thesamba) 1968 912 Karmann coupe VIN 1280xxxx Stripped interior with full cage installed. Unknown if it complies but looks proper. How old is the cage? Suspension tied in? good welds or bird poop? $2,000 No engine or transmission. Late front suspension: Bilstein, Boge? I am interested if late Bilstein with serviceable inserts and tubes not bent (Bilstein called me the other day, my tubes are bent ![]() A-arms: $150 for the pair Hubs: $50 to $100 each standard SWB rear suspension: no idea, sorry 911 oil tank installed: later with better baffling? Pinholes?: $75 to $150 FRP fenders, hood, ducktail, bumpers (has the steel parts also). Pics really needed on this stuff. The OE parts are: Bumper: $100 to $200 Hood: $100 to $300 Deck lid $100 to $200 Chassis looks nice, no obvious crash or rust. $2000 gets rid of it faster and less hassle than the $4,000 you'll get parting it, along with a lot of headache. hope this helps. Let me know on the late front struts.

The 74 could be a good (cheap) basis for a hotrod or street-legal track car in CA since it's smog exempt. You just need the right buyer.

Grady,
What kind of whale tail is it? I'm in the market for an early one, Carrera 3.0 or early turbo style. If it is in this style we should talk. As far as value, if it has rubber it all depends on the condition of that part. The rest can be fixed by a decent body man. If the rubber is loose, ripped, or otherwise damaged the value drops rapidly. I sold mine for $200 which was probably too low (fellow pelican) but the frame needed work. I have seen perfect examples run through $600 for an OEM part. If you want the most $s eBay is probably the best spot, but shipping is always a pain in the A$$ with these large items so be sure you know what it will be. Sounds like you have a ton of work ahead of you ![]() -Michael

Work in Progress

Grady,
I sent you an email with a spreadsheet of all the prices I got and expected to get for the parts I sold as I parted out an SC this spring. All of them will be pretty darn close to what I think you can expect to get from the 74 and the late style stuff off of the '67. Also you can see what is still left so you know the parts that don't go. But as a supliment to that I also sold an original early 930 whale tail for $600. It was in excellent shape though. Good luck. I have to admit I am tempted to see how much you are asking for the '68 roller. Having a longhood project car to just set aside until I have the time and $ to complete sounds like a lot of fun. Rich

I just saw the Targa top. If you decide to sell individually I would like first dibs. I am in desparate need for a good one. And the idea of the 74 as hotrod in CA makes perfect sense. Smog exempt is a big advantage when stabbing one of them 3.6's in there. This is what I did with mine.
Cheers, Ingo

Guys,
The ’67 tub needs a good home. I don’t think anyone realizes how significant a find this is. I posted above: The chassis is the most rust-free I have seen in 4 decades. Someone has a nice-but-rusty ’67 911S. This tub can save $30K++ and make a better restoration than a welding repair. Help find that car and save it. I'll post some crummy photos but take more in the morning. Best, Grady

A short wheelbase tub without rust is worth at least $8,000-$10,000 as this is BETTER than repairs or restorations. This is a significant find Grady, I too have a rust free 66 but mine had work to get it to where it is. Your chassis should go to a wrecked "R" or "S" and nothing else. My chassis is a 912 chassis but the chassis is a non-issue as its just numbers. Quality is what matters as they are all the same 901 chassis and your is quite the find. Depending on how nice your chassis is it could be closer $12,000-$15,000 as with another $15,000 in parts it could easily make a $50,000 car.

Grady doesn't usually check PMs so if you haven't reached him directly you may try his email address at gradyclay@hotmail.com or call him. I went out to see the cars this morning with Grady and they are fine examples of the vintage 912/911 chassis. Anyone wanting to avoid the rust bucket restoration needs to get on this find right away as I'm sure the bidding will be spirited. I'm also convinced that the Early 911 crowd will be talking about this "barn find" for some time. Let the games begin. Just to clarify so there's no misunderstanding, the '68 is destined to be a vintage race car. Some prior owner (not the current owner) tried to get started into converting it and didn't do a very good job but, in the right hands, it will be turned into an excellent race car.
