JB Racing Twin Dizzy

I'm looking at this dizzy to implement dual ignition on my 3.2SS, 10.5:1 mahle, DC40, PMO46 engine. Its built on the 3.0 case.

A couple questions.

- Does anyone have the diameter measurement of the cap? I want to know if my heater backdate plate will still work, its not the block-off plate but rather the plate that allows the fan air to go to the heat exchanger.

- Has anyone used one of their counter-clockwise dizzies with advance control? They say the can make it with 14 to 28 degrees advance.

thanks,

-Rob

Rob:

You WILL need to modify the left-side heater plate to fit around that cap,....BTDT soooo many times. You cut it away and weld in a plate for clearance.

Don't dispair, John Walker does this mod on a regular basis!

On second thought he does a mod for a 3.2 distributor, but I am sure he could do it. I could even do it, but then there would be lots of grinding to make it look pretty....

I talked with Mike at JB about this distributor at length in the past and it looks like a real nice item.

Cheers

Easier yet,....

Just cut it away to fit around the cap and then cut out a piece of FG cloth that covers the opening. Mix up a batch of resin and finish it off.

Once cured, you can repaint it to match the right side.

Hmmm, and have a few gallons of West Systems epoxy here and I never thought of that!

Good idea!

Cheers

Steve, this non-electromotive solution is a lot of work, but I trust it will be well worth it!

That's what I'll do, cut the fiberglass and reform it, and try to remember that I CAN'T put it in my powder coating oven...

12 pin cap diameter

The cap we use is aprox 4 3/4 " dia. you should be able to fab what you need and I think working with the glas part will be easier, also the design of the dist. housing alows the use of the stock cam feed hose without having to go to a special banjo bolt and hose for clearance. the internals with the advance system and triggering are direction specific along with the drive gears either CW or CCW, the caps are the same just a different placard for wiring to the plugs, the rotor platform can be altered to go either way and the rotor is a bolt on piece (not an expensive one off) the dist has 2 internal pickup units that can be wired to each MSD type box or use one pickup and split the signal, and have one for a spare. Call me if you have any questions. 352 343 8900

Thanks Mike

I spoke with Jim (I think) last Friday. I'm cuurntly in Germany (Stuttgart) on vacation and when I get back (after labor day) I hope to order a dizzy from you.

Can you elaborate on the advance mechanism? Will it work similar to the stock unit, i.e. can it have 14d at idle and advance more to 28d as rpm increases?

thanks,

-Rob

The advance mechanism has a range from 0 (ie that you lock it out and set the timing where you want at the crank) or just for example you could give the mechanism the full 28 deg. (crank deg.) and set the timing on the pulley to zero and you would have a total of 28 deg. or 15 deg. in the dist and 15 on the pulley for a total of 30 deg. and it is set with "keys" of different thickness that go in a slot that you move to limit the advance, tighten up the screws and remove the key and your ready. The keys are in 2 deg. inc. from 14 - 28 deg.
most all race engines we lock the adv to zero and set it at 28 - 30, they start fine hot, cold, even at 13 to 1 CR, for less than full race we do what you are asking. The stock springs start the curve at 1500 and is all in by 3500. Give us a call when you are ready.

Thanks, Mike Bruns JBRacing.com
