Excellent. You are indeed a man of infinite wisdom.

Rules for Owning a 911 Cab

1. You are the coolest of cool.
2. Top down as often as possible. If you are not top down, the car should be in storage. (or your wife is along for the ride).
3. Always zip the plastic window out & put a towel on it when folding the top down. This saves the window from wrinkles & cracks & eventual rear obscurity.
4. Treat the window with a clear plastic window cleaner every couple of washes.
5. Never, repeat, never put the top down in freezing temps. I know this breaks Rule 2 but the plastic window is not cheap to replace.
6. If it starts raining lightly, do not pull over to put the top up. Drive faster.
7. If your top is manual, always push the metal bar into the fabric as you bring the top down. If it’s not manual, it probably soon will be.
8. Wash your top every couple of years & spray with a silicone sealant.
9. Buy sunscreen & keep it in the door pocket.
10. Never leave the top down for extended periods of time. Always put it up when in the garage so the fabric doesn’t remain ‘folded’.
11. You are the coolest of cool. Keep a pen ready to sign all of the autographs . . .

Ian

I feel like a rock star already

No worries about the wife... since I am a woman and my boyfriend also has a 911. But he's not as cool and felt he needed one with a roof over his head. Poor insecure guy.

Just like Douglas Adams taught... never go anywhere without your towel
4. Treat the window with a clear plastic window cleaner every couple of washes.
Got it... left over from my BMW Z3
5. Never, repeat, never put the top down in freezing temps. I know this breaks Rule 2 but the plastic window is not cheap to replace.
Dude, if I'm driving with the top down in freezing temperatures, I am in no condition to be driving.
6. If it starts raining lightly, do not pull over to put the top up. Drive faster.
"You see, officer, I had to outrun the raindrops... really"
7. If your top is manual, always push the metal bar into the fabric as you bring the top down. If it’s not manual, it probably soon will be.
Electric tops are for wusses and Mercedes drivers.

I've started practicing my signature already Let's see, "Z - e - t - a ... J - o - n - e -s....."

Thanks Ian. I've visited your Rennlist site and it got me fired up.

No apologies necessary. I'm used to it. My hobbies are all male-dominated and my name doesn't give my gender away either.

I guess in the Porsche world, I will be a rarity. I understand 90% are owned by men.

I'm buying the car because it's a true sports car. The technical side of automobiles appeal to me. I know a little about engines, suspension, etc. Just enough to be dangerous and to show my true ignorance when I shoot my mouth off.

I'm a driver. I was pretty good in the BMW. The MINI wrecked me (I guess technically I wrecked it). So sign me up for driver's school in the 911.

And let me get the catalog out. Let's see... stiffer front sway bar, upper strut tower brace, hmmm..... no coilovers on this, I gotta learn what the heck a torsion bar is.

I'm a suspension geek (even if I am a woman)

Well, you stumbled upon the best site for older 911 info. The search button is your friend. Undoubtedly, someone somewhere has had the same problem at some point. Failing that, throw yourself to the wolves & post a query. Not a bad bunch here & a whole lot of accumulated knowledge bubbles up between the usual thread chatter.

Thank you. It is Carmine Red.

The interior is white and I don't know how I'm going to keep it that way. I think seat covers are in my future.

No, but your list of cars in your signature (other than your new 911!) give it away!

Hmmm.... you think so, huh?

The Z3 had a set of TC Kline Coilovers with VVS springs and Koni adjustable shocks, I did some work to increase the air intake, exhaust, etc. I passed a Viper and some Ms on a drive once because the GUYS driving them couldn't handle the curves. It was NOT a hairdresser car.

The VW is heavily modified with a 16-valve Scirocco engine and lots of suspension work. It's a rocket and it's as tight as a drum.

Then there are the cars I didn't mention: Two Honda CRXs with lots of ricer mods. A Toyota MR2 (is that a chick car?) and my Datsun 240Z with dual Webers, an inline 6, Monza muffler... and it made most of the muscle cars in the high school parking lot eat my dust.

The MINI.... The car has won more rallies than I can count. But I had a bad experience with mine (i.e tranny died at 34K miles and MINI wouldn't fix it). So it will be a pleasure to sit beside one in my 911 and watch it disappear in my rear view mirror as if it were a drag race. Immature of me? Oh yeah... but I can't wait !!

That is a nice color combo. Congrats.

Try Leatherique for the seats & use religiously. Keeps it soft & clean.
