Weber 46 rebuild question

Working on my webers last night, layed out the gaskets and such from PMO.

In one bag were 4 sets of washers, 4 different thickness. I assume these are to go under the float valves and I use the different thickness to adjust the float height? They are between .27, .58, .89, and 1.1mm in thickness.

Not certain about the PMO kits, but from other experience: Most carb. kits have various gaskets, o-rings, etc. to fit more than one application/year. Almost always have parts left over/unused.

Indeed, those may be to adjust needle/seat depth.

When adjusting my Weber float levels, I slightly tweek/bend the float tab.

Okay, finally found a ref to another thread that confirmed what I thought, the various thicknesses are used to set the float level. I need to dig up a float level gauge now. Available from our host for $30......

bending the tab is trickier than it sounds (for me at least) so the washers can be a help.

There are brass washers available from industrial suppliers that are suitable under the N&S in far finer gradations than the norm in kits.

I agree about not bending the tab. Part of a proper rebuild is to inspect the pattern on the tab from the steel needle.

While you typically set the float level with the carb off the engine or the engine off, you always should confirm the level while the engine is running. When you start the engine, there shouldn’t be any trace of gas or a fume!

Always be super careful with gasoline! !! !!!
