All oil guages not working, help.

Since I bought my car, 3.3, the oil pressure, temp and level quages have not been working. I have replaced the gauges to get the same results. The "Druck Press" jumps to the top when I start the car and stays there. The "Temp" barely moves even when the car has been running to temp. And, the "Oel" doesn't move at all. There is power going to the gauges and there is resistance at the sensors on the engine. The engine is not original, the chassis is a 1969. Any help would be appreciated. The engine seems to run great, but it would be nice to have gauges.

Just had this happen with my 87. It's the sender unit located on the right side of the front pulley. If you have the A/C bracket in place you may have to fabricate (bend) a open end wrench to get in their.

Sounds like the pressure sensor is not connected - it'll just peg high if there's a broken wire between the sender and the gauge. Ground the wire out behind the gauge to check the gauge works, and work your way back to the sensor. The spade often gets loose or dirty and doesn't make a good connection.

You should probably check that the temperature sender is matched to the gauge, they vary from year-to-year. If they're mis-matched, it could read too high or too low. This can happen when people fit the numbered temperature gauge instead of the simpler coloured gauges (or vice versa) and don't swap the sender at the same time.

Try grounding the gauge input terminal to check the instrument itself, it'll probably peg high if it's working...

Sounds like your level sender isn't working for some reason. Again, ground the instrument and work backwards...

If you post year and type number of the motor, I'm sure someone can look up the spec for you if it's in the manuals.

The engine is 3.2 (not 3.3) and chassis is 1969.

Check the connections. You may have the wires reversed. I had the same problem. What I found was when I replaced my temp. gauge I put the 12 volt wire on the ground terminal by mistake. By crossing the wire I also lost my oil level gauge.

Brian...I just replaced my temp gauge, which works perfectly but my druck gauge pegs and stays there while the engine is running at speed or idle and my oil level gauge never moves...I am far from an electrical wiz, is there schematics anywhere, so i can locate the sending unit to work from?

Did you thoroughly check for continuity to the grounds?

The oil level gauge is grounded near the sender on my 1971 911S. The wire was left off when the fiberglass panels were installed and my oil level gauge would just bounce consantly. Now that I properly grounded it, the oil level reads correctly as well as the neighboring fuel level gauge, which was spotty. They are grounded to the same point.
