Has anyone un-painted a Targa bar?

Yea, my P.O. painted it to match the car. It's okay I guess, but I'd sort of like to get some silver/chrome accents against the black car - probably would look more original and a bit cleaner. Any ideas?

I have and I like the look with silver wheels, others have commented against it with the black trim. I think its just enough silver and black to set off the car. Eventually I want to put the round tails lights and maybe a new set up bumpers and from spoiler.

pic in a sec.

I did. The PO tried to keep up through the years and update the car. When I got it it actually had at least 7 paint jobs and color changes. Pretty funny. When we were sanding through the layers, the feathered paint looked like a kids jawbreaker being worn through the layers. After chemical strip removed the targa bar paint I was totally depressed to find that the stainless had been totally gone over with a DA sander and 80 grit for paint prep. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I started with a belt sander w/ 100 and moved through finer grits. I finished with wetsanding inline followed by scotchbrite. Bar looks awesome and was saved from the scrap heap.

Do it!

You've convinced me. Thanks - that bar looks awesome. I don't particularly care for mine painted.

It'd be really nice if I could get it the same pewter metallic color that my Fuchs are. . . That'd be sweet - but I'll start with getting it removed and de-painted.
