Wicked wicked wicked mate, can't wait to melt your rear tyres ;)

Shall we book Silverstone on the 15th?

Charles, the car feel much quicker, the torque is just amazing! I would say 5th gear with the 3.6 is now more like 4th with the 3.2 It just keeps on pulling :D

As for the comparison with the 930, I would say it feels just as fast, but without the lag (and boost always on!). I'm not surprised about this though as the bhp figures are about the same (the 3.6 is a varioram with mapped ECU so should be good for just over 300bhp) and the car only weighs about 1020kg.

Definitely worth the cost/hassle. My 3.2 engine performed great (247bhp) but had 100,000 miles and would probably have needed attention in the next couple of years or so. I now have a modern robust engine with only 25,000 on it so should be able to put rebuilds out of my mind!

Would love to, but I must be good and get some miles on the gearbox before any track days!

I will sellotape my rear screen back in if you do!

Tim you have 11 days to get the 1000 miles on it, thats only 110 a day - sort it out.

CharlesJones 12-04-2007 04:36 AM

Awesome!

Yeah, your motor with just 25K miles on should definately proove very reliable long term. I think this engine swap is an excellent idea if you want more performance and have an idea of the provenance of your new engine - seems less risky than buying an unknown 930 I would have thought. And the car is light with no turbo lag to boot. This is something I would defiantely like to aspire to if I ever have the dosh to do it. I've just got a pair of SSI's and M&K to fit in the meantime - gunna enjoy that for a while first.

Just out of interest, if you don't mind me asking, why did you sell your 930? I think I remember a thread in which you bought it, but now I see it is sold.

MrPerkles 12-04-2007 11:28 AM

I cant wait to burn some rubber with you when the "Ark" finally gets here :)

In a nutshell I thought my tinkering days were over, bought the turbo to drive and polish, then got bored of it! The track bug also began to bite hard and it was far too nice for that.

I don't regret selling it at all, I've had so much more fun with my Carrera :D

Fantastic job, well done Tim.

richde 12-09-2007 11:42 AM

Just out of curiosity, did you repaint after you removed the rocker covers?

Brother 12-09-2007 12:29 PM

Did Patrick pay for the new parts?

Mad Mike 04-23-2008 09:10 PM

Muffler

I am in the final stages of my conversion.

What type of muffler did you use? Sounds great and is the back pressure an issue that you thought of while creating your system. I would like a single out (boxster) style with an extremely loud pipe. My neighbors will love me forever, just like my Harley neighbor has for years..

Cheers,

MM

AirCooledExcellence 04-24-2008 06:19 AM

Hi MM!

Muffler is a Happy Crab 2 from timmins.

Fellow Pelican Jevvy loaned it to me, and I don't want to give it back ;)

Cheers,

Tim.

Give it back you greedy so and so, call yourself a mate?! LOL

+1 on Patrick Motorsport, did they ever answer your email about the clutch?

AirCooledExcellence 04-24-2008 07:35 AM

The clutch was returned to Patrick Motorsport who sent it back to Centerforce for inspection. Apparently no faults were found. PM refunded the price of the clutch plus $300 or so.

That's good news Ace, well done to them, though I know it cost you a bit more to sort the problem.

You can afford to buy your own exhaust now then mate ;)

AirCooledExcellence 04-24-2008 07:52 AM

Shhhh, Jev will hear you in a minute!

Another update :)

I booked a session with Wayne Schofield (one of the top ECU tuning guys in the UK), Went up last Friday afternoon, Wayne got to work straight away:

Emulator box (£3K's worth :o) hooked into the ECU (This is the interface between the ECU and laptop):

Laptop hooked up to the Emulator:

http://www.zen78885.zen.co.uk/ForumP...20(Medium).jpg

Before he started the re-map, he checked the existing chip from my ECU. When I bought the engine / ecu I was told that it had been chipped already, Wayne compared the code on that chip to the code from a bog standard one. Turns out the chip that was in there was running a standard Porsche ECU map! Apparently this is quite common :o

Next he checked the ignition and found that 2 spark plug leads were swapped over. In a normal 6 plugged car this would be apparent straight away, but not in the twin plugged 3.6, again he said this is very common because the leads look right in the swapped positions.

Then he checked the vacuum systems, these were all in order, with no leaks.

So he started the remapping process and spent nearly 2 hours in front of the laptop watching various graphs & hexadecimal codes flying about on the screen.

So results are:

http://www.zen78885.zen.co.uk/ForumP...20(Medium).jpg

Yes, that's 325.6 bhp and 289.1lbft torque!! As you can imagine I was over the moon with that :)

Wayne wasn't that surprised, he was expecting around that sort of figure for a healthy 3.6 varioram with free flowing exhaust.

The car is running brilliantly, much more drivable, increase in power is very evident, the way it pulls in 5th on the motorway is just great :D

MPG was also great, 260 miles on the way home and used half a tank, this works out at about 29mpg!

village idiot 05-21-2008 07:39 AM

Wow, those are some great numbers! Must be a lot of fun to drive it:D

mjshira 05-21-2008 08:39 AM

those are great numbers.
