My guess is that if someone were to eliminate the "spoilerette", some high speed downforce would be eliminated. That thing is basically a mini "duck" in the down position, but it raises up about three inches at highway speed and becomes a little b-plane spoiler.

I like both the boxster and caymen the way they are so there...but I'm keeping my 1987. Maybe one of the new ones for the wife.

I think it looks best in motion...especially pulling away from you..

The more time you spend with one in person, the better it looks. I think it's quite gorgeous. Definitely on my wish list for many reasons.

As for "value" compared to a Boxster...the reality is most people are paying Boxster prices for their Caymans, so that "upcharge" for the stiffer coupe pretty much goes away.

As for comparing a new Cayman S to a used 997...it's apples to oranges. If you're going to buy used, why not buy a used Cayman S? Compare those prices and the Cayman S still looks favorable by about $20k.

..*sigh*.. I miss my Boxster.. :(

this seems like a good place to say this
I looked at the 997s today, the regular carrera does nothing for me
the S doesn't much either.
sat in the gt3 and the turbo. Didn't do it for me and I don't understand why.
heavy doors, no porsche smell. gt3=very very heavy clutch. Didn't even bother with the tt.
Of all the cars on the lot, I looked at caymans the most, I don't know why.
This fact has me seriously reconsidering my 996tt and 996gt3 thoughts. I almost hate myself for this.
i want another porsche and this is a serious dilema. Now I'm thinking 993tt.
GOD i can't believe I'm saying this, I like 996s better than 997s. Someone shoot me.
I gauge it like this, I see a car, any car, if I want to walk up to it and look, find out more then I believe this is something I could like.
no new 911s do this for me.
I just picked out the red headed, pale skin stripper of the porsche family, does that make me a bad person?
what I need is a cayman with the 3.8 x51 with the gt3 front end.

While I see teh 997 exterior as an improvement, I don't like the interior - specifically the dash and console. The 996 and early Boxster had much better interiors than the new cars.

The new ones are all square. They look......American.

I'm not a Porsche fan beyond SC/Carrera (fat, big bucks statusmobiles don't appeal to me, no matter how quick & fast).

If I had the say-so and economic survival of the company wasn't a factor, Porsche would put its best engines in the Boxter, put the car on a severe diet to bring the weight down to, say, 2800 lbs max., drop all the other "sporty/cushy/grand touring" cars from its lineup and rename it the 911 Boxter.

I'd REALLY like to own one of those!
