The other car we just got had an old spare dash... reading a few threads here and got the encouragement to try a repair...only thing to waste was a good piece of leather (38.00).
This is the dash. I use some Bondo flexible epoxy (Bumper and Flexible Part Repair). That is the black stuff you see. The red stuff was my first attempt with some putty (not flexible so it sucked for this repair). I got rid of all the red bondo putty before covering with leather... but forgot to take a photo. Since this was a test, I forgot to take photos along the way. I will do so for the next one. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair7.jpg and after covering with leather. Used some 3M 80 adhesive. Strech strech strech, pull here, pull there, clean glue... cut at angle, strech some more. Turned out to be a bit easier than what I thought. After: I have a leather dash!! http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair8.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair10.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair11.jpg |
The second dash is in much better condition... here it is with the cracks filled:
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair17.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair16.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair15.jpg I used some vinyl preparation spray and some black vinyl paint (SEM) and here are the results. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair18.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair19.jpg But after the results with covering the test unit with leather, I am going to sand it again and go with leather on this one as well. This is the one that will go back in the car. And, because I could not resist testing the other dash... here it is on the car. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair12.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair13.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair14.jpg |

Nice looking car :-)

this is a cool project

The dash that you see painted (a few posts back) I recovered in leather. Here is a photo of the dash finished. This is the one that I will install back in the car. The other one was just a test.
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/dash_repair20.jpg The car is getting painted today!!! |
I love the painted dash sheet metal.
I was contemplating doing something similar to mine but I chickened out. Yours turned out well. Nice contrast |
It is painted!!!!!!! Body shop guy only sent me this photo...lol

Body shop guy is a tease.
|
Some photos from today. I installed the dash. I also installed the new momo steering wheel but that was just for the photos... maybe if I left this guy alone it would go faster, hehehehe

Hey Wachuko, Congrats... but I think you need wider tires on the rear, the ones you have installed tend to spin or even worth, tend to move in the rims ... :D

A few more photos... pardon the lousy phone photos... I should have better ones this Saturday.

The anticipation is building! Those ducts exiting the flares are so downright mean.
|
the build is looking amazing. I love the colour of the vehicle and i love that steering wheel, real classic look with a modern feel.
|
Haha, something about the way the car looks in that photo with the wide rear, tiny wheels, and no front bodywork reminds me of a Citroen DS for some reason.
The blue looks awesome, by the way. I think it was a good call, I personally wouldn't want to be the guy with the bright orange RSR that everybody's staring at when I hit my first trackday with it... |
Took a few photos today of the progress of the car. Apologies for the quality, only had my phone with me...
Rubber trim not installed. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint1.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint2.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint3.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint6.jpg The exhaust is not the final one... reason why I asked him not to bother with fixing the cutouts... once we order the headers and the muffler he will finish the cutouts around the exhaust tips. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint7.jpg Could not resist installing the wheels/tires to see how they would look in the car now... but since the car has been on jack stands the suspension did not settle down enough... reason for the 4x4 look in the photos. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint4.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/paint5.jpg |
Wow!
If it looks that good now, just imagine how fantastic it is going to look once you have the ride height set. Keep the updates coming! |
