? Bolt size of air injector plugs?

Does anyone know the size allen bolts I should use to plug the holes in the heads of an '80 SC, after I remove the air injector nozzles? Wayne mentions these in the book, but no size given. A question to Pelican responded with "They're Mercedes oil drain plugs" but surely MB used many different sizes. Thanks.

I checked our host first and received the same response. So I purchased a set from Performance Products.

baloo: As far as I know, '78-'79 had the "Pump" but not in '80 or thereafter.

Question to "VITALSTAT" -- I couldn't find the plugs in the Performance Products catalog. You have it? Also, did you install the copper washers, and have you had a plug blow out yet? Thanks.

Thanks to all -- Esp. the crotchety Old Bastard (glad you have that monniker, often applied to me). The previous webwork on the subject from '04 is golden. (I had tried the Search engine, but the thread didn't surface -- or maybe I didn't go back far enough.)

Euro '80 SC's had the air injection system also. PET shows Euro SC's had the same air injection system thru '83.

Euro model, 1980 per title -- but should have no bearing on question of plug size.

I had one blow out at the track this weekend. Scary sound, to be sure. In despair and thinking I was done for the weekend, Kevin, Jay and Stefan came up with a band-aid for the last couple of sessions: a short section of brake line worked fine - the thread is the same. We just pinched off the brake line, threaded the nut into the air injector hole, all everything held tight.

BTW - I used the MB drain plugs originally and just searched for this thread to find the part number again.

I sold about 10 sets of plugs a year or so back. Do I need to put a new batch together? Sold for about $12 shipped.

John,
Guess I'd still be interested. Bought the "pipe-threaded" ones someone had previously recommended, but heven't gotten around to putting them in. Thinking I should preserve the threads. You have the copper washers too?
Thanks.

What I have are female hex head tapered plugs, no washer needed. These are in the correct 10mm thread size and not 1/8" pipe plugs.

John,
So these would not ruin the threads, in case any subsequent owner might want to reinstall the air pump system?

Quick question guys: I'm in the process of doing the same on my 72 (3.0L). I have removed 5 of the six injectors so far. Does the heat exchanger need to come off in order to get to one of them?? Thanks!
