Does your SC have one key or two?

I lost the keys to my 81 SC. One fit the doors, the other the ignition. I have a Carrera, it has just one key.

Extremely reluctantly I used my local dealer, I've had nothing but trouble with them, but they had changed owners since I last dealt with them and I really wanted new keys. I showed them title to the car, they said two business days. This was Sept 21.

The receipt said two master keys and one something else, I assumed that two keys meant two different keys and didn't ask questions.

After I don't know how many phone calls, all from me, I got a really weird looking key today, Oct 17. Actually my wife picked it up, I would have wondered why there were not two. It was weird looking because the something else was the plastic on top of the key, it's about 3/8" in diameter.

Of course the key doesn't fit either the doors or the ignition, not even close.

It doesn't appear that either the door handles or the ignition switch have been replaced on my car, hence the question about how many keys you have. I have to decide what to do next, have a locksmith key it or go back and ask them if somehow during the whole lot longer than two business days and then end of the weeks and tomorrows the screwed my order up.

Thanks for your time.

If one key fits both doors and not the ignition, then the ignition was replaced at some point. New cars aren't sold with two different sets of keys. I think you can have the ignition (or the doors) re-keyed by a locksmith. Pelican sells Porsche key blanks for your car for $13.95.

Agree with Kurt. My car has one key that fits the doors, glove compartment, and ignition.

My car has one key for doors and ignition.

Is there a separate key for the alarm or does it use the door/ignition key? I ask because I cannot get my current key in the alarm keyhole and I'm not sure I've ever tried it before.

When I bought my car, mine was the same way... actually worse. I had one key for the drivers door, one for the passenger door, and another for the ignition. I had a locksmith re-key both of my doors for $25 to match the ignition. I took them off of the car while I was doing a repaint and just took them to him.

1 key for ignition, doors, etc

1 valet key (red) for everything minus glove box and trunk lock (on targa)

1 key for alarm (in door jamb)

FYI -- I had a new ignition installed last winter and my wrench was able to key it to match my existing keys no problem

The factory alarm key is not in the door jamb.

It's on the back edge of the door itself, inside from the outside door handle. It has it's own key - smaller than the others.

Okay, it sounds like one is the winner. Thank you all for your time. I looked at the ignition, doesn't look like it's been replaced, but I supposed it could have been done well long ago.

Thank you for your time.
