Wevo question

Anyone know if I get the Wevo shifter upgrade kit (the so-called "short shift" kit) if this comes with the bushings and knuckle as well? I'm certain my linkage needs at least an adjustment (very sloppy and practically impossible to get into 5th or reverse) so I'm figuring it might be a good time to check and/or replace and/or upgrade the bushings, knuckle and shifter itself. Excuse to spend money, I know, I know. . .

Anyway, my primary goal is to get everything on target and working properly and secondly to reduce the "slop" in the shifter and make it more precise so I don't inadvertently miss a shift and blow up the engine. Recommendations for which specific parts I need? I'm pretty much sold on the Wevo products based on the testimonials I've read here and elsewhere. . .

What you get with the kit, which I just installed, is the "cup" bushing, which goes at the bottom of the shifter itself, and the bushing at the aft end of the opening for the shifter base, on the center tunnel, through which the front end of the shift rod passes. I'm not sure what you mean by the "knuckle." If you mean the cup bushing, see above. If you mean the shift coupler, the answer is definitely no.

If your shift coupler is old, this is definitely the time to replace it, and you might as well buy WEVO's not-cheap piece to go with the shifter.

Which you'll love, by the way. Fabulous upgrade.

Dumb question, but is the "coupler" (or "knuckle") the piece that goes directly under the shifter itself or is that the one towards the rear of the tunnel under the panel that lifts off (four screws)?

The WEVO shifter exploded diagram can be found in the installation instructions on the WEVO website. An exploded diagram can also be found in the PP catalog.

On the diagram, you can see which parts are included in the kit and which are not. I believe that you are referring to the cup bushing that sits on the end of the shifter shaft and yes that is included.

Hope this helps,
Britain

The shift coupler is the joint that sits in under the panel in the rear of the tunnel. It is often the case that the plastic bushing in the coupler are either cracked or ovaled out. WEVO offers a stock replacement part for the O.E. coupler (known as the PSJ - Precision Shift Joint) and has an associated billet clamp to replace the stock stamped part.

These products are also listed in the PP catalog at the same link that I included in my last post.

Probably going to end up replacing both the shifter, coupler and clamp (eek!) just in case. At least that way I know it'll be good (hopefully) for the life of the car.

That's what I'd do. The only reason I didn't replace the coupler with WEVO's part is that mine were almost new anyway.
