1983 SC/RS questions

I was reading about the SC/RS and the article stated that 20 1983 SC/RS's were built. 5 of those 20 went to Rothmans, and the other 15 were sold for street use.

Were the street versions "normal" 911's , i.e., non-rally equipped? Were the race versions all for rally use?

Does anyone on the list actually have one of the original 15 cars?

Not that this helps much, but here's a street version SC/RS.

Yes they were street cars (with hardcore seats etc) but most of the ones I have seen had rollbars/cages added afterwards and did some sort of competition. You see them out and about on track days in Europe.

Proper cars. There is a good SC RS thread on the board somewhere. There are a few past owners here but I don't think any current ones.

edit - LOL, just seen the guys have posted about the thread.

I looked at your thread a while back Randy. I will look it over again. Thanks for posting it Mike.

I was mostly kind of curious if anyone on the board actually had one of them.

Thanks guys...

That is a very inspiring video clip, derek !

The sound is intoxicating and the driver is no slouch neither. I wish I knew how to do that around the bends.

Thanks John. Oh, and thanks for letting me on your board!

I looked through that other thread Mike posted and will look some more later, but I was trying to find the one RWebb started. I cannot find it for some reason.

Here we go...
Was there ever an SC/RS

turns out I didn't start it, just added a bunch to it.

SCRS brought it up, along with various others.

Intersting what they did with the air intake, is this for cold air?

EDIT: From Randy's other thread:
Quote:
Later in the engine department there were a row of SC-RS motors with high butterfly throttle bodies attached to metal tube conversion stacks to accept a street air cleaner. Which interestingly had the snorkle at the flywheel end with a little intake muffler- (was this for Euro noise restrictions?) The normal end had a smooth cover that screwed on in the usual manner.

Interesting Youtube clip from LFOT....

Hmmm...... not much of a front spoiler ( none !...except for vestages at the corners, a la Turbo pieces, which the SC/RS used)...and a Carrera-type tail in the rear.....

Shoulda been diabolical...but the car seemed pretty stable.....

Don't forget the front valance is not stock SC, the front is one-piece fibreglass and the valance is slightly deeper. Plus the car rides higher than an SC/Carrera, so might look like nothing there in that vid, but they definitely do have that extra low-down front spoiler, same as other impact bumpers.

Great video, Derek. Thanks.

The Brooklands book on the SC has an article (or two) on the SC-RSs.
