Power mirror mess

Let me start by saying I’m a electricial idiot. I have a ‘76 911. The PO replaced the power mirror but didn’t wire it up. I thought I would tackle it this weekend and when I got to the wiring I found a mess. The PO cut both connectors. So what I have is 4 wires running into the door. Two brown, one grey /green, one black with purple bands. The wires to the mirror through the switch has 7 wires. One brown, one green, one white, one black, one black/purple,one black/yellow and one grey /green. I suspect the replacement mirror isn’t a 76 model, I’m guessing it has a heating feature that the original didn’t have. If anyone has any suggestions,or can help I would be greatly appreciative, regards dave.

Why do you say it's not a 76 model mirror(s)? Are they flag mirrors? Pretty sure 76 have heating elements.

You are dead in the water without instructions. However, instructions exist with some searching.

You need to confirm the mirror situation.

Mirrors

You will need to post a request for the Model/Year 1976
circuit diagram, then post again.

I have the '86 which is not compatible.

As I recall, the '76 only had one mirror.

Also, is your mirror adjustable with a door mounted switch?

Gerry

Yes they have the 6 pole electric switch in the door. I’m just guessing they aren’t a 76 mirror just based on the non matching colors of the wires. It could be a mirror of 1976, it is a flag mirror..

the wires change colors (meaning a yellow wire hooks up to a blue wire as an example) this is why you need a wiring diagram for your model year. There are several threads on here that address this issue. or just experiment.

part of the 1976 wiring diagram. Z4 is the heating element (defogger), V17 is the motor, E43 is the control switch. Hope this helps.

Please post any update/findings.
