At the very least A2 Tunnel would be interesting. It's ONLY like $475 an hour. :D HAHA

The rear quarters and duck tail portion of this car has always been fascinating to me. I would love to see the additional aero coefficients comparing a standard RS/RSR factory design that has the basic duck tail, versus this car with it's additional "spoilers" and wider stance.

Inner Fenders

Before we bonded the inner fenders were sanded and painted.

More Rear Fender Work

Primer. First image shows some marks where Keith wanted the edges sanded a little smoother, his attention to detail is second to none:

Steering Wheel

Progress on the body work continues. In the meantime the next detail to be worked on is the steering wheel. The R7 used the same wheel used in the 910/917 as seen here:

Steering Wheel

We were unable to find a readily available wheel for the project so we decided to make our own. After much research Keith found that a Momo Jacky Ickx wheel, although slightly smaller diameter, had similar proportions and look to the 910/917 wheel:

Steering Wheel

So research began and Keith was able to develop the proper dimensions and hole sizes that would need to be drilled for the wheel to be correct. After modeling in the virtual world he made an overlay/template to make sure that the machine work was correct.

Holes drilled and the hub adapter fits nicely. The wheel will be painted satin black and sent out for recovering. Currently researching the correct stitching and leather.

I've only just run into this thread. Don't have time to read through it now, just had a quick look at this last page when the steering wheel thing caught my eye.
I guess one of these is what you may have needed.

Wow, yes that would work perfectly! Nice looking wheels.

Thanks for all the updates. As a general comment, it's in interesting push pull, I'd think....exactly how do you go about this project? the originals were, I bet, not symmetrical, and less than perfect. They obviously could have done certain things better...matching transitions, a ducktail that actually fits (LOL) and so forth, but back then it was a case of getting idea on the track ASAP....races to be won!

So, I'm sure the originals had low spots and weird transitions and such. How much of that do you try and copy? Or do you say, "well, that low spot/dent in the middle, they obviously didn't intend that, (the other side looks fine) so we'll make it smooth"? The transitions/areas where the stock duck and the modded quarters, (for example) and edge matching sections, I guess you'll mimic the original.

Eimkeith can probably answer this question better than I can as I have never personally seen the original car/fenders. What we created was our best interpretation of the original fenders based on photos/measurements that were obtained through research. In looking at photos over the years you notice that the fenders "evolved" with time There were countless hours spent ensuring that the what we made could be reproduced and fit not only on this car but other 911s with a minimal fitting process. While not 100% exact I feel like the final rendering is very close to what the original builders were intending when they built and improved the car.

lateapex911 10-25-2019 04:15 PM

Yea, that is the best path I'm sure. Its not an eay process no matter what though! I like the line up in your sig, pretty unique stuff!

Now I'm up to 11 years since first laying eyes on it. Body and paint look great. Hurry along and finish it before your are forced to use an electric motor by some government decree. ;)

Thank you very much for the compliment, definitely a long time in the making but we are getting there. Electrical system is coming together nicely. We are able to use the original 87 main harness while having to modify the front and rear portions to look like the 72, as they say the devil is in the details (a big thanks to Gerard Kroon of Kroon wiring for his help). Wiring for the fuel pumps is finally done, we managed to find the correct connectors and connector covers. Here is a picture of the original style harness:

Reproduction covers sourced from pelican member Timmy2 are fantastic:

It’s a fantastic project. And I hope all will read this thread from start to finish... I mean where it sits today! I sincerely hope it will debut at Luft7 this November. That would be the cherry on top for our big east coast event.
