Here we go again! Zuffenhaus MS RSR project...

Hey guys. We can't seem to behave like a normal shop around here.

I thought you might be interested in a current project:
(this is why you should never leave your car unattended at zuffenhaus)

a client brought us his really clean '87 Carrera to get a little work - rollbar install, sunroof delete, and driprail removal.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196249709.jpg

- then, while we are in there, why not a 935 mirror conversion, and FULL rollcage, for SERIOUS trackwork (and rigidity)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196249882.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196249968.jpg

eimkeith 11-28-2007 02:42 AM

at this point, our client decided to go widebody and benefit from the increased track and width.
(our clients are smart)

eimkeith 11-28-2007 02:47 AM

and you know what? they all really wish they were longhoods, anyway:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196250265.jpg

we'll be using a hybrid FG hood on this one - early skin with short hood latch stuff below.
when a composite hood is wanted for a backdate, this reduces the labor time involved with the conversion.

we make a remote cable pull to release the hood - positioned within compfortable finger reach, like this:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196250349.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196250416.jpg

The fuel filler door gets filled in - the owner will be running a Fuel Safe fuel cell with under-hood fill, so we'll smooth that fender.

eimkeith 11-28-2007 02:54 AM

- and brakes. GTP Lites. (and not just because we are a Brembo dealer!)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196250522.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196250562.jpg

this car was already setup for track work - Elephant suspension (we're still liking that ASP system), Hargett shifter, etc., etc.

- and slight upgrade in WHEELS:

THIS is why I come to work in the morning: ;)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196250829.jpg

so sexy...

These are 17x9.5 and 12 CCWs, Full black. Not quite vintage, but will work nicely with the overall visual theme - kind of Retro-Racecar. (our specialty)

It's fairly exciting around here right now. While this project progresses, we're closing in on the C2 to '72RSR project, getting deep into a really special '72 ST build, and jumping into a '72RSR replica for someone with a blue IROC...

eimkeith 11-28-2007 02:56 AM

stay tuned - there are more neat items coming up on this project!

Rory Mckenna 11-28-2007 03:08 AM

Damn.. I wish I had the bank to send my 930 to you guys....... I have ideas.... lots of ideas... I simply have no jack to make them happen :) ahaha
please do post more when you can.. it already looks like a hell of a car.

Rory Mckenna 11-28-2007 03:09 AM

BTW: What do you chrge for a full cage just like that?
you can PM me with the answer if you don't want to post it ..
Thanks!

CT944 11-28-2007 03:45 AM

nice pix, and great work.

PcarPhil 11-28-2007 04:27 AM

Keith,

Very nice work as usual! I have a few questions:

1. Do you cut out pieces from donor doors to use as filler panels for the 935 mirror conversion? It looks like you do.

2. Are the turbo width steel flares that you're using OEM or Dansk panels?

3. For the sunroof delete do you reuse the stock sunroof panel? If so what mods do you make to the panel for this process?

4. Can you provide a few close up pics of the patched door areas and sunroof delete?

Thanks! I may be contacting you in early '08 to help me with a few parts of my widebody project. Keep up the great work!

tmsautoart 11-28-2007 05:13 AM

More pics of the white GTi please! oh by the way...nice 911

charleskieffner 11-28-2007 05:38 AM

dear zuffenhaus, im interested in your remote cable pull.

reason my rally hood with vier(4) hellas in TRE's light pod is an absoute PITA to open. like i cant open it myself. always have to have someone pull hood release while i lift up and push lever over to open.

this ingenious idea would make my life wunderbar again. ie. i can do it myself when no ones around. like out on the highway miles from nowhere to change a flat.

so please be so kind to quote me a price on this hood release. looks fairly simple to install. drill one hole, and attach to hood release. anything else to install?

thanks

Really great stuff! When is the next swap meet/drool fest scheduled for your shop. I remember coming to one a few months back and had a great time.

Charles,

Maybe consider a stiffer spring. I think that might be easier. www.mcmaster.com carries a good variety.

BTW This is going to be a wicked project.

Cory M 11-28-2007 07:05 AM

Cool project!

Any pictures of how you trimmed the inner roof for the sunroof delete? I assume you got rid of the support structure to drop the weight and gain some headroom.

I'm sure the fenders will look great when they are completed, but damn that's a lot of work, why not just go fiberglass?

JeremyD 11-28-2007 07:18 AM

That's not a wheel, it's a steamroller

GaryR 11-28-2007 07:38 AM

Very nice but the poor guy could have just bought my 930, had you guys weld in a cage, cut the rails off, toss on a longhood nose on it and go! I only have 9 and 11.5 x 18's though..
:D

village idiot 11-28-2007 08:21 AM

Keith, you really do have the best job in the world. When I used to work at a bodyshop that specialized in exotic cars, I couldn't wait to get to work!

There was always some kind of cool project in progress. Best part was I got to use the shop in my off hours to work on my own projects(I was racing sportbikes @ the time and painted bikes on the side for my racing buddies).

It looks like another winner coming from you guys. Keep us posted on the progress.

damn! Teo is at it again!!! I should have purchased it myself.

DaddyGlenn 11-28-2007 12:07 PM

I came in late on Teo's. Not gonna miss this one......subscibed

Jandrews 11-28-2007 12:42 PM

Sweet!!! What kind of rear suspension is that car running? I see the ASP, but I also see a non-coilover shock. What trailing arms? Also, what are the specs of those rear wheels, i.e. width, offset, backspacing, etc...?

Last question, could you also PM me with an estimate on roll cage installation in a '70 Coupe?

Outstanding project!!! Zuff rocks!

Mo_Gearhead 11-28-2007 01:28 PM

This thread has a good discussion on the driprail delete or rain gutter filler(long)

ischmitz 11-28-2007 04:29 PM

so when is the "smart client" going to ask you for an opinion on how to get a 993 rear axle mounted instead of his current suspension and replace the entire underpan while you are at it....... just kidding.

trader220 11-28-2007 04:48 PM

Put me down for one of those too please

ktr6 11-28-2007 06:09 PM

I think your smart client has excellent tastes! Ill bet his wife thinks otherwise though.

Larry_Ratcliff 11-28-2007 06:21 PM

signing up for what looks like a great build

911teo 11-29-2007 01:47 AM

What size tires are you going to put on those bad boys 12"?

On a side note will 15" wheels fit over GTP lightweight or do you need 16"?

Dutchie 11-29-2007 03:54 AM

Awesome car once again Keith !!

thanks for posting another very cool project  those 12 " wheels are very nice. I,m sure the car will hold fine at the track.

Cheers,

1. Yes, if available.
2. Dansk
3. Yes, unless a sunroof-less roof clip is available. When using the panel, we remove the sub structure for weight savings.
4. I'll see if we have some pics of that stuff handy.

Quality of fit/finish of steel over the glass stuff. By the time you complete the additional work on the FG panels for quality fit, your price & weight margins are incredibly small.

yeah, all "keith"s have excellent taste. - and are smarter than average. - and better looking. - and etc. ;)

CHARLESKEIFFNER - I think Tim is right - you need a stiffer spring. Our remote pull is for the catch, not the latch, if that makes sense...?

The 12"ers get 335 or 315 rubber depending on the manufacturer.

Slider79SC 11-29-2007 10:21 AM

Great, thanks a whole bunch!!!!!

Now I am inspired to get going and spend more money on my car....

I too am interested in a price on a cage, please shoot me a PM so we can talk.

Thanks for another great build post to follow.
