Updates
Been a while since an update, things are definitely moving. Rear fender finishing touches and wheel fitment have been the main focus. The rear fender lip needed some tweaking to make it right. Keith made the needed adjustments and has 3D printed the lips for final fitting.

Now that the fenders are finalized it was time to check wheel fitment/tire size etc.

Wheels back from being machined to proper offsets as they were a little wider that what was needed to fit in the fenders. They are also painted and had a very good trial fit.

Seats
Next we needed to figure out seats, the original MS has an RSR passenger seat and a Lollipop driver seat. As I looked around I found Ward at Vintage Seats located in Cumming, GA. He said he could make an RSR seat as supplied no problem and had it ready in short order. It has the proper gel coat back and uses Recaro material.

Lollipop Seat
While I was talking with Ward about the project he mentioned he had an original Lollipop seat in storage and was considering making a proper lollipop replica at some point down the road. After studying it and giving it some thought it seemed like the right time to make it happen. Work began and within roughly 90 days he delivered a great seat as promised. The new seat has pleated recaro material on the front with a carpet back.
I have to take a moment to compliment Ward and his work. His customer service is phenomenal, always available and delivers his product on time and as promised. Here are some pictures of the original: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567985511.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567985511.JPG And the finished product: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567986034.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567986034.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567986034.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567986034.JPG |
WOW! Great updates!!
The thing I always tell people, when I mention this build, is the level of commitment to detail for this car. It really separates then men from the boys, here. Incredible work, as always! Super excited to see more and I definitely want to come by and see the finished product before you guys kick it down the road. I'm just a short drive away. I will also now check out Ward, since you mentioned him. My project will eventually need seats as well. Thank you for the update! Please keep them coming! |
Shifter
Thank you for the compliment, if you look back on page 27/28 Keith discussed designing a shifter that would look identical to the 915 while allowing us to use the G50/01 that came with the car. Everything has been machined and is ready to go in the car. Transaxle has been rebuilt to factory specs and a Guard LSD installed. Here are some images of the final machined parts.

Rotors
Rotors are ready. Going to use 930 rotors, centers were provided by Zuffenhaus and the center backing rings were machined from 1/8 stainless.

Wow, that's some glorious looking hardware!

Excitement!!!

Wow!!!!

One of the biggest components of this project has been the development of the rear fenders. If you have read through the thread you can see things really started from scratch. After lots of development/revisions and the contributions of multiple talented people I feel like we are there. The final iteration has been bonded to the car and I will post some photos of development in the near future.

What a build! Wow.

Have sort of been waiting for someone to do a Mary Stuart collar. Maybe I missed them previously but looking forward to this one.

Fenders
So if you go back to post 765 you can see where Keith finished up the final shape of the rear fenders. Once complete, the car went to a carbon shop in NC to have the carbon fiber reinforced and finished. Here are some photos of the process:

Man someone really likes that car 20 years of work and several million dollars later.
Maybe an exaggeration but still some serious dedication. Can’t wait to see the finished car. Tony |
Amazing, this thread started in 2007

Once the carbon work was done it was back to the body shop to fine tune the shape and get the fenders bonded to the body:

No wonder the Mary Stuart Collar is a mod not often seen. Amazing work.
How will the plastic tank hold up with ethanol fuel? Markus '80 SC Targa |
So, this inquiring mind wants to know... Will this car go to AeroDyne to see what kind of added rear DF these fenders make? :)
|
Quote:
Thats a good question about the fuel tank and the ethanol. Based on the type of plastic and with adequate venting I think we should be okay, definitely a good idea to investigate further. |
