one window is faster than the other
The electric windows in a friends 81 SC are acting strange. The drivers side works fine, but the passenger is a bit slow. Could this be the motor going out, or do you think a clean and lube of the window regulator would work? There are no odd sounds, and while slow, the glass goes down smoothly.
He is heading out of town for a couple of days and we want to check this out n case he runs into foul weather. |

I had the same problem. Clean and lube the mechanism and also make sure all the electrical connections are clean and tight. Doing that definitell helped my window move faster.

A clean and lube of the regulator may help. You can also try to spray some silicon(sp) onto the felt channels. I did this for quite a while, but eventually the window stoppped going up/down.
I decided to remove the window motor, bench test it with an A/C source (it still worked) and then replace it. Window worked fine (but slow) for 2 days, then it stopped. I removed, tested and replaced again. Window worked for 1 day. I finally bit the bullet and bought a new motor ($135+/-). Now the passenger side goes up/down as smooth as silk, and just as fast as the drivers side. If you've ever r&r'd a window motor, you'll unnderstand why I bought a new one after 2 attempts at fixing... a real wrist turning PITA! Dan Tolley 1987 911 coupe |

Mine were like watching turtles race when I got them. Very, very slow. I put grease wherever I could get my hand in, and blew graphite-based lube in the channels. Now the 28-year-old motors work as good as new.

the fuzz wears off the felt channel and the glass drags on the rubber. lube of any sort just makes the problem worse. fresh felts work wonders. of course the mechanism may be dry, or the motor may be tired, but try the felt 1st. it's easiest and usually the problem.

hey jack
what kind of grease did you use for the motor. Mine gets worse in the rain. during dry days it is slow, but rainy weather it is frozen... Thanks |

73 and earlier 911s had metal backed felt channels that were glued in, requiring removal of the frame and lots of chiseling and pulling to get it out. later ones had a slip in channel that you could pull out. use a wet style silicone spray down the window frame and on the rubber only on the length that goes into the door. slip in as far as possible, roll up glass 3", stick a screwdriver blade @ 45 degree angle firmly into the channel with the shaft resting on the corner of the glass, roll down window, the channel will follow, repeat until top corner lines up w/frame. glue top 6" of channel so it doesn't slip down. piece of cake!

although I've never done it.. Warren once suggested that the motor get relays.

OK, I just read Harlequin's thread also curent on this BB. Apparently this can be done w/ the door panel & window frame in place.
