How long does it take to rebuild a speedo?!?
Based on recommendations from this board, I sent my 911 speedo to Palo Alto Speedo for a rebuild (it only needed the needle re-installed, but I authorized them to do whatever they saw fit). According to UPS, the speedo was received 10/27.
When I e-mail, I keep getting excuses (closed for a week, tech has some questions, we'll call you tomorrow, etc...what questions? Why would I have anything knowledgable to say about a speedo? I sent it to them for service...). Now, they've stopped replying to my e-mails (I've sent three total). WTF? Am I out-of-line in thinking it takes a month and a half to rebuild a speedo? Anyone else have problems with PAS? |

North Hollywood did mine in two days, and did a really nice job. Month and a half is lame.

I would ask for it back, but they won't return my e-mails. I guess I'll have to call them...or buy a new speedo.

I have used Palo Alto Speedo on several occasion without any problems. I would call the owner, Hartmut Mees and get to the bottom of it. Like you say it shouldn't take that long, plus I can't believe his communications are that bad.
Good luck, let us know how it turns out...

Hi, sorry to hear about you getting the run around on your speedometer. I took my speedometer to a shop in Houston, Tx. I dropped it off one morning for them to repair the odometer and to clean and service the rest of the unit. I dropped it off in the morning, and it was ready that same day. Same day service!! It has worked great since 2003.

You guys are making me nervous about the speedometer situation. I replaced the odometer gear and the odometer works fine. Is there something else that goes wrong with the speedometer that I cannot fix myself? I have 130k on my 87' 3.2.

My speedo was broken when I purchased the car (needle was laying in the bottom of the unit). I sent it to Palo Alto Speedo at the recommendation of other forum members. Not knowing the condition of the unit, I authorized them to rebuild if necessary. Hopefully I'll get it back and will re-ship to N. Hollywood Speedo. |

Just cleaning, lubing, calibrating speed. You could probably do most of whatever it would need.

+1 for North Hollywood, very good customer service, done within a few days. They replaced the odometer gear and calibrated my speedo, they also changed a couple capacitors. For the cost and convenience, why not. (I still can't believe a plastic gear costs $30??)
As for Palo Alto, my brother uses them for his alfas without any problems. |

Frank here in Vicksburg. I have an '86 Carrera and my odo/trip meter quit working suddenly this week. I saw your post about a shop in Houston. Do you mind telling me what it cost to have the odometer fixed? Thanks,

Can't speak to Palo Alto, BUT.....
Sent my speedo to North Hollywood via Priority mail on Saturday April 5th, (printed the label and handed it to my mailman), they called me Monday, YES Monday night(I guess USPS is as good if not better than UPS) (my time central, during a card game) and told me my Odo was rebuilt and my Speedo recalibrated to my specs and I had it back in my dash (after swapping out all the gauge bulbs with LED's) Monday April 12th. Gotta love customer service!! Sorta like Ben at M & K...

Those guys were nice enough to sell me the part I needed AND tell me the resistor value I needed to change my 85 mph SC to a 140 MPH. I've used them before when I worked at a dealer, but, wow, talk about customer service.
