Gertvr..
Hey man, glad to see an update! She's looking real fine... What roll bar is that you're using and where does it mount on the front? Paul,

Do the drilled holes on the rotor on the right side spiral 'frontwards' like in the picture of the left side? Looks like they might be on the wrong side..

Made by Kiwi tiles. I like it a lot the floor isn't as cold in the winter, doesn't care about any moisture, or cracks in the slab and cleans easily .

Good Drawback

It has a 78SC motor and I am keeping it stock for this phase. Planning to go to ~300Hp in th near future as 2nd phase. Will probably go over to the dark side, hmmm kinda fitting. Working on the rough plan for that but want to do something interesting. Quote:
I made a very frustrating discovery day before yesterday when it dawned on me that i forgot to install the shift rod and tried as I might couldn't get the darn thing in. I read some folks got them out without removing the engine but i couldnt get it in reversing their procedures either and it looked like the engine had to come out again bid bummer. In most of the threads that i read it was to get the rod out to install a Hargett shifter. I had a new RennShift Shifter and coupling ready to go in. There was just no way that i was going to remove the engine again. Decided to sell the RennShift and bought a Hargett shifter. I saw it once and liked the shifter position but already had a new shifter so Ii let go of the thought. It worked out well or so I hope. So far I have just read good feedback. I will relocate the handbrake, hand throttle and defrosters to the original shifter opening. Progress: Installed the roll bar Relocated the ign coil and removed the stock fuel filter and accumulator. To do this weekend: Install in-line fuel filters Install drive shafts Wiring for wide band A/F ratio meter Test oil lines for leaks Check for oil pressure Start the engine ![]() ( Spell check didnt work, please excuse my spelling )![]() ![]() Spot for the wide band O2 on the HE ![]() Rollbar ![]()

Tell me your thoughts on the wide band o2 sensor. A permanent gauge? A temporary item to tune the carbs?

Hi Lateapex: I will use it primarily to tune the carbs for now and later to tune / run EFI. I will remove the sensor and gauge once tuning is done.

Its been a while since i posted any updates. Work is progressing slowly. but i am getting closer to the end date, at least to get this phase done.
The most amazing thing was to start the engine the sound was just awesome, better than anything i have personally heard in a long time . The aluminum flywheel, PMOs, SSI and M&K 2-2 transformed the engine's characteristics completely. It is very responsive and feels rev happy. I will be able to get the full jist of it after the system has been fully tuned, at least the initial indications are good. I had a set of Corbeau Forza seats that i salvaged from my AutoX Miata before i sold it and will be using this until i have the funds to install better seats. I will use Schroth 4 point ralley harnesses as they have an anti submarining mechanism and they are DOT approved. I think this build is really getting to me now i.e. getting tired and start making mistakes, i have been working on this between 30-40 hrs per week usually ending at 1am in the morning since i got the car back from the paint shop in December. Good example is forgetting to put the shift rod in before installing the engine. This leads to installing a Hargett shifter (was a good thing in the end after recovering from the initial shock, no issues with that), this leads to relocating the hand brake for the Hargett shifter installation, this leads to drilling a hole through both fuel lines in an attempt to reuse the hand throttle. Work completed since the last update: Completed AFR installation, Removed damaged fule lines and installed new ones Installed the Hargett shifter and relocated the handbrake assembly. Installed temporary seats (they will have to do until i have enough funds to upgrade to better seats) Completed the passenger door assembly Installed new drive shafts Started the engine ( one valve needed readjustment, did that) Installed front wheel spacers Work still to be done: Complete driver door assembly, Install 4pt harnesses Bleed the brakes, Hood and deck-lid alignment Set timing Short Test Drive to warm up engine Check again all suspension and other bolt and nut torques Adjust Clutch Tune the Carbs Set ride height and get alignment done Chase small electrical problems Modify window washer fluid container to fit in stock position with IROC bumper Shake down drive in mountains Track day @ TGPR on march 19th ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rgrds Gert

Update
Hi Billybek,
The car is running great and is a blast to drive. I had a shake down day at TGPR in Alabama and attended a couple of AutoX events and two DEs at Road Atlanta with the Porsche & BMW clubs, i will post some pictures as soon as I have them. In the mean time, I upgraded the rear calipers from 84+ Carrera to 996 rear with the TRE adapters and some spacers. I have an issue, what i think is a suspension setup problem, that i need to work through. The car gets little squirrelly in the back on hard braking at the end of the Road Atlanta back straight. It did this before the brake upgrade. I think i have to much rake (1.7deg) front to rear and will have the back lowered before the next DE in August to see if this changes. I also had problems with the throttle cam ratios changing from CIS to PMOs and had to make some modifications to get the ratio's to provide a decent pedal travel to WOT. ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers Gert
