Hi folks
I've been a long time reader of this board (1 1/2 yrs) and read the posts on it every day (from work of course). It's a great resource. Problem: Due to overly aggresive shifting (i believe)i have completetly lost 2nd and 4th gears! At the beggining of this problem shifting into 2nd was getting increasingly difficult. Until eventually i just lost 2nd & 4th.There is no grinding or any nasty noises from the trans simply no 2nd & 4th. At this point the trans. is ok however 3rd does not like to go into gear above 3000 rpm's (this might be normal?) I've been driving around (weekends)in 1st & 3rd which surprisingly is not that bad. There seems to be enough torque to keep the engine from bogging when shifting into third especially when taking 1st to 4000 rpms. Could this be a shifter fork which came loose? It seems it might be a case of the internal linkage losing its proper adjustment? I am prepared to remove the engine/trans from the car but perhaps this could be remedied by making internal adjustments to the linkage from the access cover directly under the case? Thanks |

I'm assuming your 930 has the same shift pattern as the plain old 915 trans... if so, it could very well be the bushings in the coupler since 2 and 4 both require the lever to move back and pull the shift rod forward.
However, I think you would notice significant play in the shifter and unusual noises at a the coupler if it was something this simple. Let us know what it turns out to be. ------------------ -- John '86 Carrera |

When we bought our 1987 930 seven years ago we were shown and told how to shift it, not "speed shifting" like I used to do with my 1969 Z28. The 930 transmission was not designed to be able to speed shift as the Turbo engine had so much power 934s/935s would out run most anything on wheels for 24 hours so the drivers just wound it up and shifted easily.
