R&T on 951 vs. 911

I dont know if I can do this without getting into copywrite trouble or not, but I just found an old Road and Track mag that compairs a 911 to a 944 Turbo (951)and would like to make it available to you folks...

I dont want to lose the mag, but I do have a scanner. Any ideas on how I could "post" this so anyone interested could read it and not get me into trouble at the same time???

If anyone likes, I will scan the mag article and email it (should have high speed connection)or maybe upload it to a website..

If you got ignored for that, that would be pretty LOW! Stupid too.
Just because a 944 isn't a 911 doesn't mean it's trash or should be ignored. All of us 944 owners would love a 911 any day, BUT we just don't have the money! If we did we would own a 911 just like most of you on here.

Viprklr, I'll take it.

Is that the article from about ten years ago which had the two cars in the Alps, beautiful scenery and, at the end of the drive, snow on the roads? If so, that was a good read. I think everyone would appreciate it.

VIPRKLR 03-11-2001 01:49 PM

That is the one - it is a good read - esp. if you have driven or owned both cars...

I think they meant "get in trouble" and "Ignored" in terms of copyright laws, not a slam on the 944.

Didnt mean to slam the 44, I own one. Just have posted a couple of 44 related topics lately. They don't seem to be as inspiring as say a V-8 conversion.. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/wink.gif

Sorry about the interpretation. But I still see stuff like that happen where some 911 owners think they are god and look down apon the 944 and are disgusted by it.

some of those 944s are very, very capable cars. Nothing to sneeze at.

Gentlemen, you have just witnessed the beginning of a 100 plus post. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/wink.gif

(With a very heavy Turkish accent)
944s are very good cars....
For me to poop on.

Total joke, I'd take a turbo no problem.

Hey, the appearance of ViperKiller coincides with the disappearance of famous baiter Obin Robinson...coincidence?

hey http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/wink.gif i'm still here. been busy though.

i have that article on the 944 turbo vs 911, offhand. it's reprinted in a book i have.

obin (who'd take a 944 turbo over a 911 any day of the century http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/wink.gif ... except the 911 GT1 of course)

RarlyL8 03-12-2001 05:30 AM

Please don't bring that 944 bull**** back here again. They have their own board at this site. It's bad enough that we have to argue the V8 conversion, but there is no board for it (yet).

For the record my mother in-law owns a stock mint '86 951. Great car to drive. Absolutely no similarities can be compared beween that car and a 911. The 911 is unique in every way.

Obin Robinson 03-12-2001 05:39 AM

VIPRKLR: i could scan in my copy, but for it to be legible it would be HUGE. it would take ages to download. the most you can do is find if someone has already transcribed it.

I think the 944 is great! In fact, I went down to the dealer to test drive and buy a new one today. I was shocked to find that such a great car had been discontinued!
I've been on vacation in Siberia the past 15 years, but before I left, I was pretty certain that front-engined 4 cylinder cars were going to be the wave of the future at Porsche.
I mean, the 944 was so much better than the 911, how could they discontinue it? Oh well, I guess I'll have to buy a used one. Haven't priced any used ones yet, though. But, the '86 944 Turbo was within a couple dollars of the '86 Carrera as new cars in 1986, and a good used '86 Carrera seems to go for around $24,000 right now. Given how great the 944 is, I'm pretty sure I can get a good '86 Turbo for a little more than a Carrera, maybe around $26,000, right? The used car market must surely reflect the greatness of the 944 in its prices . . .

i thought we went through this already? if you want to know some porsche history, there's a ton in the old posts around here. if you can read and write in the english language, then all the info is on this BBS.

WOW!! Sarcasm has found a home!!

dhamilto 03-12-2001 09:55 AM

I had to get rid of my slightly tuned 944S before I moved over to here from the UK. Within a month of arriving here I had purchased an 83' SC for about the same money thinking it had 204bhp. I love 911's but my 944S would beat this 174bhp thing in every way. I have never tried a 951 but I can imagine how uncontrollable they must be, especially in the wet. Like someone else said, there is no comparison. The 951 is a luxury highway rocket, with a slippery back-end elsewhere, whilst the 911 is a noisy ill-mannered grunty pig of a sportscar that puts a big grin on the driver's face.

VIPRKLR 03-12-2001 10:37 AM

Dam it fellas - I did not post this as a freakin 944 vs 911 post. The article I mentioned talks about the virtues of BOTH cars and has some really neat input on the 911.

I was mistaken in thinking anyone would want a copy of this - for the same reason Road & Track wrote the article - real information. No idiotic bias, which seems to run this BBS lately.

HEY WAYNE - will you please remove this post too if I promise to never post anything here again???
