I agree free would be too much if it were the car itself I was interested in. But I see an opportunity for a free engine that may or may not have been updated or rebuilt. I am going to look into what receipts he has. I remember him showing me a receipt for the carb update. It has been a while, so I don't remember what other work he has documentation for.

I don't know about you all but I am of the mind set that any car is worth restoring. Now some (many) will disagree. Evrytime I drive by a junk yard and see any car from the 40's, 50's or 60's with all those lines I think that if I could, I would love to restore them. Now if a car is a complete rust bucket and has little to no physical intergrity than it may be a lost cause. Iowa's car doesn't look like a lost cause - a great project that will take hundreds of hours and a few thousand bucks to start out.
He isn't looking for a show piece concours nor a racer - only a car with personality and style which he can get his head and hands around and learn something from while having fun doing it. I say get it, clear some room in your garage and start a journey that will be filled with fun, frustration and memories. (and if you decide to part it out give me a call!)

Well here is some more info and photos. The car comes with two donor cars. One is a 69 0r 70 911t the other is (correct me if I'm wrong) a 74 or 75 911s sportmatic. The 69 is pretty rusted as you car see and the interior is there, but in rough shape. The 74 is actually pretty sound other than the damage to the rear. All four wheels are in good shape from what I can tell. The interior is in sort of o.k. condition. Now, back to the '77, here are pictures of the engine. What carbs are these? With all of this as a package, is there much value in it?
