There are also some anachronicalisms (but, not being mechanicalstically inclinated, I don't know whether or not they're Porsche specific?) that relate to adjustifying a thermomastat, corroborater, etc., that refer to turning a screw 1 RCH. What's that one mean?

By the way, my favorite anachronicalism used to be IACOCCA (I Am Chairman Of Chrysler Corporation America).

Great idea.

I might just be sensitive, having a '69 E, but isn't the term usually: long hood?

Thanks

SSI is a brand of performance enhancing heat exchangers for 911s.

Two favorites:

TLA = Three Letter Acronym or Two Letter Acronym
FLA = Four Letter Acronym or Five Letter Acronym

These are useful to throw into a conversation when one of the participants is trying show off or confuse people by using acronyms.

Not quite.
Double de-clutching.
As it implies, de-clutching twice. Pedal down--out of gear- pedal back up-blip throttle-pedal back down-in to gear- pedal back up- drive on.

I drove a crash gearbox box 16 tonne Leyland truck for 3 years & nearly 400,000 miles D-D-C'ing up & down the box.
My left leg still has the "muscle memory" twenty years on!

On a cold day the oil was so thick the first few changes always resulted in the dreaded grinding noise, accompanied by hoots and cat-calls from the dock loaders as I drove away.

I drove a 1965 10 ton La France for 10 years. Downshifting was fun and artful.

PMO = carburetors - these are improved versions of the Webers used on 911s when stock

IDA, IDT - specific models of Weber carburetors

carbs = abbrev. for carburetors

ERP = Eisenlohr Racing Products; maker of high quality 911 suspension parts; see also Elephant Racing

Elephant Racing = Elephant Racing Products, company founded by Chuck Moreland which makes high quality 911 and 914 suspension parts, found more recently than ERP hence the tendency to use ERP to mean the Eisenlohr company

SRP = Smart Racing Products; maker of various high quality after-market parts, mostly suspension parts

Tarrett - maker of sway bars

Sanders = maker of hollow torsion bars; still in operation?

Automotion = originally, a paper catalog company of Porsche Parts run by a couple; it was bought out by Performance Products and the price to quality ratio changed...

Wevo = Windrush Evolution products, maker of various high quality after-market parts

Pelican = secret as to why Wayne named this company & bbs after that bird; he has promised to divulge it someday...

H1 = H-1 = type of headlight used early on with separate bulbs and reflectors for high and low beams, which can be aimed independently of one another. Often thought to be the best lights available and expensive on the used market (~$1,200 for a good pair); NLA as new parts.

H4 = H-4 = A later type of headlight with two types: Drop-in replacements (cheapest option) for your sealed beams, or completely different light assemblies similar to an H1 in appearance. One bulb either way, aiming one beam affects the other.

[modified from a jdog post today that I have shamelessly stolen]

H-5 = H5 = some new-fangled headlight type that people talk about on this bbs

SAE = Society of Automotive Engineers; a professional society that publishes various journals and papers, often online

DOT = US Dept of Transportation; has some regulatory authority over cars (safety aspects) and parts, including tires - the specifications are not anwhere as tight as for TUV

TUV = a German regulatory agency; nearly every German product must meet very tough standards set by this agency; as examples brake lines and wheel that meet US DOT standards will often not meet TUB standards

ISO = International Standards Organization; sets process and performance standards for a wide variety of products, including some auto parts

Better add the '73 Carrera (uh oh) RS to the list of MFI cars.

Dizzy = distributor (not a 60s song by the Young Rascals)
LSD = Limited slip differential (Not Timmothy Leary's drug of choice)
Speedo = Speedometer and male swim apparel worthy of being banned.
Spacers = a piece of metal availble in varying thicknesses which is placed between the wheel and the hub to push the tires out/widen the track of the tires. (Also see Timmothy Leary).

Since no one has said this yet, I'll point out that Porsche has a publication (undated but apparently pre-1991) that will be useful in this effort. It's called: Porsche Technical Terms. It's 104 pages in an odd format, 4 1/2" x 11". Most of the definitions are not "Porsche specific" and are more detailed than those listed in this thread but are still useful. For example, below is the Porsche definition of DME as compared to Randy's

Ask Beetle Bailey, still working on a '69 911, what his favorite acronym is:

PPP.....Piss Poor Planning
